Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, after seeking…
Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, after seeking permission from the Sangat of Sultanpur and his sister Bebe Nanaki Ji, proceeded to Talwandi. Guru Ji instructed Bhai Mardana Ji to first visit his home and then meet his parents, but he advised him not to disclose anything about him to anyone and to remain silent. Guru Ji wished to stay in solitude outside the city in an abandoned place.
Bhai Mardana expressed his concern, saying, "Guru Ji, how is it possible for me to go home and not speak about you? Everyone will ask about you."
Guru Ji replied, "Try to remain silent as much as possible."
Following Guru Ji’s advice, Bhai Mardana first visited his family and then went to meet Mata Tripta Ji. Seeing him alone, Mata Ji asked him several questions, but Bhai Mardana remained silent. However, Mata Ji, observing his smile, understood that Guru Nanak must have arrived but was avoiding coming home due to his ascetic appearance. So, upon returning to Mehta Kalu Ji’s house, she gathered some food items and set out in search of Guru Nanak Ji.
Soon, she found Guru Nanak Ji in an isolated place. Upon seeing his parents, Guru Ji warmly welcomed them and touched their feet. Mata Ji embraced him and insisted that he return home, but Guru Ji did not agree. Meanwhile, Rai Bular Ji, upon hearing the news, also arrived to meet Guru Ji.
Guru Ji warmly welcomed him, but Rai Bular Ji wished to bow and touch Guru Ji’s feet. Before he could do so, Guru Ji held him up and said:
"Son, I am now in my old age. I do not know when Allah might call me, so I wish to satisfy my heart by seeing you. You must come to my home."
Guru Ji, moved by his affection, agreed and went with him to his house.
Hearing about Guru Ji’s arrival, all the residents of Talwandi gathered at Rai Ji’s house to see him. Guru Ji addressed their doubts with his divine discourse and explained the significance of Naam Vani (chanting the divine name). He emphasized that the ultimate purpose of human life is to attain liberation from the cycle of birth and death, and the only means to achieve this is through devotion to God’s name, which can be easily obtained by listening to Keertan (devotional hymns). Therefore, attending Satsang (holy gatherings) is essential.
During this time, Guru Ji’s wife, Sulakhani Ji, was staying at her parental home in Pakho Ke Randhve along with their younger son, Lakhmidas. After spending some days in Talwandi, Guru Ji, along with Bhai Mardana Ji, proceeded to visit his in-laws. For his wife and children, this was an extremely joyous occasion as they were meeting after twelve long years.
At that time, Baba Moolchand Ji was the Patwari (revenue officer) of that place, but he had grown old. Chaudhary Ajit Randhve, a local leader, requested Guru Ji to settle there permanently. Guru Ji assured him that he would consider the suggestion carefully.
Moolchand Ji said, "Son, you are my rightful successor because I have only one daughter. So, after my demise, everything will be yours. Do not worry about wealth. Buy land here and engage in agriculture."
Hearing this, Guru Ji replied, "Father Ji, alright, as per your wish, I will establish a permanent residence here. Please make arrangements to purchase land nearby. However, I must first complete my remaining journeys before permanently settling in one place."
Moolchand Ji responded, "Alright, I will purchase land for you in the populated area near the banks of the Ravi River, as the land is available at a very low price there."
