Amrit Keertan
Keertan is the singing of Gurbani to set music. It is a central part of Sikh worship, and the gutka below gathers the sung texts in one book.
Gurbani was composed to be sung. The Guru Granth Sahib is set out in ragas, the musical modes, and kirtan performed at Gurdwaras follows that structure. Amrit Keertan refers to this sung tradition as it is practised and written down for daily use.
Many Sikhs keep a small gutka of sung texts for home and travel. The gutka is also a practical way to learn a shabad before hearing it in the Sangat.
