One day, Guru Dev Ji arrived at a village
One day, Guru Dev Ji arrived at a village. He went to a well to rest and have some water, but the local villagers behaved rudely with him. They mocked him without reason, passing sarcastic remarks and making fun of him. Bhai Mardana Ji felt deeply hurt by this disrespectful behavior, but Guru Ji remained calm and composed. None of the villagers even offered him hospitality.
The next morning, as Guru Ji was about to leave the village, he said, "May this village always remain inhabited."
At the next stop, Guru Ji arrived at another village where the people warmly welcomed him as soon as they saw him. They listened to his sermons throughout the night and also sang hymns in praise of the Almighty. They made proper arrangements for his meals and stay, requesting Guru Ji to remain there for a few more days.
Bhai Mardana Ji was deeply impressed by the truthfulness, morality, and devotion of the villagers. When Guru Ji was about to depart, all the villagers came to see him off with great love and respect. However, as he was leaving, Guru Ji said, "May this village be deserted."
This statement created doubt in Bhai Mardana Ji's heart, and he could not contain his curiosity.
He respectfully asked Guru Ji, "Guru Ji, is this your sense of justice? The people who insulted us, you blessed them to remain in their village forever. But the people who served you wholeheartedly, you cursed them that their village should be abandoned?"
In response, Guru Ji explained:
"Brother, if the people of the first village moved to another place, their bad company would corrupt others as well. Therefore, it was best for them to stay where they were. As for this village of virtuous people, if they settle elsewhere, they will spread their goodness wherever they go, benefiting others."
