Guru Nanak Dev Ji Sakhi #45

After departing from the city of Patna, Sri…

After departing from the city of Patna, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji set out for Puri, a town in the Odisha province. One night, he camped in lush green fields. He asked Bhai Mardana Ji to play the rabab and sing hymns in praise of the Almighty. Hearing the melodious sound of kirtan, a young farmer named Pali, who was the caretaker of the fields, came near and sat beside them. He concentrated his mind and listened attentively to the divine hymns.

When Bhai Mardana Ji started feeling a bit tired, the young man sensed that these saints might be hungry and decided to arrange some food for them. He plucked some chickpea plants from the fields, roasted them, and humbly offered them to Guru Ji, urging him to partake in the meal. Guru Ji was deeply moved by his kind-heartedness and blessed him, saying, "You have the heart of a Sultan (ruler). Therefore, you shall become a Sultan one day."

The young man spent the entire night sitting beside Guru Ji, immersed in devotional prayers. However, before dawn, Guru Ji advised him, "Son, now return home. The Almighty is about to shower His blessings upon you." Upon receiving this command, the young man left for his hometown.

When he reached the residence of his master, the landlord, he discovered that the landlord had passed away. Since the landlord had no children, he had written a will before his death, stating that all his wealth and property should be given to his faithful servant, as he considered him loyal and deserving in every way.

When the village council reviewed the will, they immediately declared the young man as the rightful heir of the landlord’s estate. Guru Ji’s blessing came true, and in time, this young man prospered and eventually became a Sultan (ruler).
