As Guru Ji was explaining to the ritualistic Vaishnav Sadhu, everyone listened to his discourse in silence. They then humbly requested Guru Ji to explain the matter in more detail. Seeing this, Guru Ji lovingly made everyone sit down and addressed them, saying, "The Supreme Lord is not pleased by external purity, but rather by those who renounce vices, adopt high and pure virtues in their hearts, and conduct themselves with righteousness. No one is born high or low; it is a person’s deeds that make them noble or lowly.
Therefore, one should always act with the awareness that God is ever-present because His divine light shines in every heart."
Guru Ji then asked Bhai Mardana to play the rabab and sing the above verses for the gathering.
At that time, King Vijay Prakash of Garhwal had arrived in Haridwar for the Ganga bath. When he heard the praises of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, he came to have his darshan. The king expressed several doubts in his mind before Guru Ji and also inquired about Guru Ji’s caste.
In response, Guru Ji said, "The Supreme Lord Himself is my Master and Father. Therefore, I have no specific caste; I am merely a simple human being."
