One day, Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji left his home…
One day, Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji left his home and went to the cremation ground, where he sat and said, "There is no Hindu, no Muslim."
This news reached the town's Qazi, who, along with many people, came to ask Guru Ji, "How can you say this? We see that there are Hindus and Muslims."
Guru Ji replied, "These are only Hindus and Muslims by name, but they do not possess the qualities that a true Hindu or a true Muslim should have."
Hearing this, the Qazi felt ashamed.
After this, the Qazi said to Guru Ji, "If you believe Hindus and Muslims are the same, then come and offer Namaz with us today."
Guru Ji agreed and went with the Qazi to offer Namaz.
The entire town started talking about how Guru Ji had become a Muslim. Even Jairam became worried, but Bebe Nanaki said, "Do not worry. You will see how my Nanak will guide the Nawab and Qazi to the right path."
And so it happened.
When Guru Nanak Dev Ji stood in the mosque along with the Qazi and Nawab for Namaz, the Qazi and Nawab continued offering their prayers, but Guru Ji remained standing still.
After the Namaz was completed, the Qazi, in great anger, asked Guru Ji in front of everyone, "Why did you not offer Namaz? You have disrespected Namaz, and for this, you deserve punishment."
Guru Ji replied, "With whom was I supposed to offer Namaz? Nawab Sahib was, in his mind, in Kabul, purchasing horses, while you, Qazi Sahib, were thinking about your mare at home, which had recently given birth, and you were concerned about its foal."
Hearing this, the Nawab and Qazi realized the truth in Guru Ji's words. Recognizing Guru Ji as a great saint, both the Nawab and Qazi bowed at the feet of Guru Nanak Dev Ji in reverence.
