Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji would bathe in the Bein River every morning at Amrit Vela and immerse himself in deep meditation. When he went for his bath, a servant would always accompany him.
One day, Guru Ji removed his clothes, handed them to the servant, and jumped into the deep current of the river. The water was very deep at that spot. Soon, he disappeared into the depths of the river. The servant waited for some time, but when Guru Ji did not emerge, he informed Jairam that Guru Ji had drowned.
Upon hearing this, the entire town gathered at the riverbank, and a search for Guru Ji began with great effort.
Eventually, after searching in vain, everyone returned disappointed. Jairam started crying loudly, and people began speculating in various ways. Some said, "Perhaps Guru Ji suffered a loss at the Modikhana (storehouse) and, unable to bear the shame, committed suicide."
However, Bebe Nanaki remained firm in her faith. She said to her husband Jairam, "Do not worry, my lord. My brother can never drown. He is the one who will liberate millions of souls from the ocean of worldly existence; how can he possibly drown?"
But Jairam could not find peace. Finally, Bebe Nanaki said, "O husband! Wait for my brother for three days. If he does not return by the third morning, then you may believe that he has drowned."
Trusting Bebe Nanaki’s words, everyone remained silent for three days.
On the third morning, at Amrit Vela, the entire town began walking toward the Bein River, where Guru Ji had disappeared.
However, before they could reach the river, they saw Guru Nanak Ji walking toward the town, dressed in golden attire.
At that very moment, joyous chants of victory resounded from all directions, and the town was filled with celebrations. The sounds of festive drums and music echoed everywhere.
Jairam, overwhelmed with happiness, generously gave charity to the poor.
