A few days later, Mehta Kalu Ji, along with all the relatives, arrived in Sultanpur and started advising Nanak Ji. He said, "Now that your bride is coming, you will need money to run your household. But you are still the same as before! You continue to squander money on beggars. Have you saved anything that can be useful in times of need?"
Nanak Ji: "Father, what can I do? I receive a lot of wealth, but it never stays with me."
Mehta Kalu Ji then addressed his daughter Nanaki and said, "Dear daughter, if you pay a little more attention to Nanak, he might be able to save money. You should start keeping track of his income and expenses. Only your guidance can bring him on the right path."
Nanaki Ji: "Father, why are you not satisfied with the fact that my brother is engaged in work and has started earning? Gradually, he will also manage his household on his own. Do not worry; God will take care of everything."
The entire wedding procession then departed for Batala city. Soon, following all the traditions and customs of the Gouna ceremony, the bride was sent off, and they returned to Talwandi.
After staying with his parents for a few days and meeting Rai Bular Ji, Nanak Ji was preparing to return to Sultanpur. At that time, his wife, Sulakhni, humbly requested that he take her along.
Nanak Ji: "The thing is, I am still staying at my sister’s place. Until I arrange a separate house for you, you will have to stay here because I do not want to be a burden on my sister."
Hearing this, Sulakhni, with the promise of being called soon, became calm and content.
