ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ik-ōṅkār satigur prasādi ॥

ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਸੁਣਿ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਤੂ ਕਾਏ ਦੇਖਿ ਭੁਲਾਨਾ ॥

suṇi bāvrē tū kāē dēkhi bhulānā ॥

सुणि बावरे तू काए देखि भुलाना ॥

Listen, madman: gazing upon the world, why have you gone crazy?

ਸੁਣਿ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਨੇਹੁ ਕੂੜਾ ਲਾਇਓ ਕੁਸੰਭ ਰੰਗਾਨਾ ॥

suṇi bāvrē nēhu kūṛā lāiō kusambh raṅgānā ॥

सुणि बावरे नेहु कूड़ा लाइओ कुसंभ रंगाना ॥

Listen, madman: you have been trapped by false love, which is transitory, like the fading color of the safflower.

ਕੂੜੀ ਡੇਖਿ ਭੁਲੋ ਅਢੁ ਲਹੈ ਨ ਮੁਲੋ ਗੋਵਿਦ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਜੀਠਾ ॥

kūṛī ḍēkhi bhulō aḍhu lahai na mulō gōvid nāmu majīṭhā ॥

कूड़ी डेखि भुलो अढु लहै न मुलो गोविद नामु मजीठा ॥

Gazing upon the false world, you are fooled. It is not worth even half a shell. Only the Name of the Lord of the Universe is permanent.

ਥੀਵਹਿ ਲਾਲਾ ਅਤਿ ਗੁਲਾਲਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਮੀਠਾ ॥

thīvhi lālā ati gulālā sabdu chīni gur mīṭhā ॥

थीवहि लाला अति गुलाला सबदु चीनि गुर मीठा ॥

You shall take on the deep and lasting red color of the poppy, contemplating the sweet Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਗਨੁ ਥੀ ਰਹਿਆ ਝੂਠ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਪਟਾਨਾ ॥

mithiā mōhi magnu thī rahiā jhūṭh saṅgi lapaṭānā ॥

मिथिआ मोहि मगनु थी रहिआ झूठ संगि लपटाना ॥

You remain intoxicated with false emotional attachment; you are attached to falsehood.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਸਰਣਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਰਾਖੁ ਲਾਜ ਭਗਤਾਨਾ ॥੧॥

nānak dīn sarṇi kirpā nidhi rākhu lāj bhagatānā ॥1॥

नानक दीन सरणि किरपा निधि राखु लाज भगताना ॥१॥

Nanak, meek and humble, seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord, the treasure of mercy. He preserves the honor of His devotees. ||1||

ਸੁਣਿ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਸੇਵਿ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਨਾਥੁ ਪਰਾਣਾ ॥

suṇi bāvrē sēvi ṭhākuru nāthu parāṇā ॥

सुणि बावरे सेवि ठाकुरु नाथु पराणा ॥

Listen, madman: serve your Lord, the Master of the breath of life.

ਸੁਣਿ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਜੋ ਆਇਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਾਣਾ ॥

suṇi bāvrē jō āiā tisu jāṇā ॥

सुणि बावरे जो आइआ तिसु जाणा ॥

Listen, madman: whoever comes, shall go.

ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਹਭ ਵੈਸੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਪਰਦੇਸੀ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੀਐ ॥

nihchalu habh vaisī suṇi pardēsī santsaṅgi mili rahīai ॥

निहचलु हभ वैसी सुणि परदेसी संतसंगि मिलि रहीऐ ॥

Listen, O wandering stranger: that which you believe to be permanent, shall all pass away; so remain in the Saints' Congregation.

ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਭਾਗੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਚਰਣ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਗਹਿ ਰਹੀਐ ॥

hari pāīai bhāgī suṇi bairāgī charaṇ prabhū gahi rahīai ॥

हरि पाईऐ भागी सुणि बैरागी चरण प्रभू गहि रहीऐ ॥

Listen, renunciate: by your good destiny, obtain the Lord, and remain attached to God's Feet.

ਏਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਸੰਕ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਜਿ ਬਹੁ ਮਾਣਾ ॥

ēhu manu dījai saṅk na kījai gurmukhi taji bahu māṇā ॥

एहु मनु दीजै संक न कीजै गुरमुखि तजि बहु माणा ॥

Dedicate and surrender this mind to the Lord, and have no doubts; as Gurmukh, renounce your great pride.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਭਗਤ ਭਵ ਤਾਰਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣਾ ॥੨॥

nānak dīn bhagat bhav tāraṇ tērē kiā guṇ ākhi vakhāṇā ॥2॥

नानक दीन भगत भव तारण तेरे किआ गुण आखि वखाणा ॥२॥

O Nanak, the Lord carries the meek and humble devotees across the terrifying world-ocean. What Glorious Virtues of Your should I chant and recite? ||2||

ਸੁਣਿ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਕੀਚੈ ਕੂੜਾ ਮਾਨੋ ॥

suṇi bāvrē kiā kīchai kūṛā mānō ॥

सुणि बावरे किआ कीचै कूड़ा मानो ॥

Listen, madman: why do you harbor false pride?

ਸੁਣਿ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਹਭੁ ਵੈਸੀ ਗਰਬੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੋ ॥

suṇi bāvrē habhu vaisī garbu gumānō ॥

सुणि बावरे हभु वैसी गरबु गुमानो ॥

Listen, madman: all your egotism and pride shall be overcome.

ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਹਭ ਜਾਣਾ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਮਾਣਾ ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੋਇ ਦਾਸਾ ॥

nihchalu habh jāṇā mithiā māṇā sant prabhū hōi dāsā ॥

निहचलु हभ जाणा मिथिआ माणा संत प्रभू होइ दासा ॥

What you think is permanent, shall all pass away. Pride is false, so become the slave of God's Saints.

ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰੀਐ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਤਰੀਐ ਜੇ ਥੀਵੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਲਿਖਿਆਸਾ ॥

jīvat marīai bhaujlu tarīai jē thīvai karmi likhiāsā ॥

जीवत मरीऐ भउजलु तरीऐ जे थीवै करमि लिखिआसा ॥

Remain dead while still alive, and you shall cross over the terrifying world-ocean, if it is your pre-ordained destiny.

ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀਜੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਜੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਾਵਹਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਧਿਆਨੋ ॥

guru sēvījai ammritu pījai jisu lāvahi sahji dhiānō ॥

गुरु सेवीजै अंम्रितु पीजै जिसु लावहि सहजि धिआनो ॥

One whom the Lord causes to meditate intuitively, serves the Guru, and drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਹਉ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੋ ॥੩॥

nānku sarṇi paiā hari duārai hau bali bali sad kurbānō ॥3॥

नानकु सरणि पइआ हरि दुआरै हउ बलि बलि सद कुरबानो ॥३॥

Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord's Door; I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice, a sacrifice, forever a sacrifice to Him. ||3||

ਸੁਣਿ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਮਤੁ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

suṇi bāvrē matu jāṇhi prabhu mai pāiā ॥

सुणि बावरे मतु जाणहि प्रभु मै पाइआ ॥

Listen, madman: do not think that you have found God.

ਸੁਣਿ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਥੀਉ ਰੇਣੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥

suṇi bāvrē thīu rēṇu jinī prabhu dhiāiā ॥

सुणि बावरे थीउ रेणु जिनी प्रभु धिआइआ ॥

Listen, madman: be the dust under the feet of those who meditate on God.

ਜਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

jini prabhu dhiāiā tini sukhu pāiā vaḍbhāgī darsanu pāīai ॥

जिनि प्रभु धिआइआ तिनि सुखु पाइआ वडभागी दरसनु पाईऐ ॥

Those who meditate on God find peace. By great good fortune, the Blessed Vision of their Darshan is obtained.

ਥੀਉ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਣਾ ਸਗਲਾ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਟਾਈਐ ॥

thīu nimāṇā sad kurbāṇā saglā āpu miṭāīai ॥

थीउ निमाणा सद कुरबाणा सगला आपु मिटाईऐ ॥

Be humble, and be forever a sacrifice, and your self-conceit shall be totally eradicated.

ਓਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਭਾਗ ਸੁਧਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲਧਾ ਹਮ ਤਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਆਪੁ ਵੇਚਾਇਆ ॥

ōhu dhanu bhāg sudhā jini prabhu ladhā ham tisu pahi āpu vēchāiā ॥

ओहु धनु भाग सुधा जिनि प्रभु लधा हम तिसु पहि आपु वेचाइआ ॥

One who has found God is pure, with blessed destiny. I would sell myself to him.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਸਰਣਿ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਰਾਖੁ ਲਾਜ ਅਪਨਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧॥

nānak dīn sarṇi sukh sāgar rākhu lāj apnāiā ॥4॥1॥

नानक दीन सरणि सुख सागर राखु लाज अपनाइआ ॥४॥१॥

Nanak, the meek and humble, seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord, the ocean of peace. Make him Your own, and preserve his honor. ||4||1||
