ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਹੁਤੈ ਧਨਿ ਖਾਟੇ ॥

Bhairao, Fifth Mehl:

ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਹੁਤੈ ਧਨਿ ਖਾਟੇ ॥

sukhu nāhī bahutai dhani khāṭē ॥

सुखु नाही बहुतै धनि खाटे ॥

There is no peace in earning lots of money.

ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਪੇਖੇ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਨਾਟੇ ॥

sukhu nāhī pēkhē nirti nāṭē ॥

सुख?? नाही पेखे निरति नाटे ॥

There is no peace in watching dances and plays.

ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਹੁ ਦੇਸ ਕਮਾਏ ॥

sukhu nāhī bahu dēs kamāē ॥

सुखु नाही बहु देस कमाए ॥

There is no peace in conquering lots of countries.

ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ॥੧॥

sarab sukhā hari hari guṇ gāē ॥1॥

सरब सुखा हरि हरि गुण गाए ॥१॥

All peace comes from singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||

ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਲਹਹੁ ॥

sūkh sahaj ānand lahhu ॥

सूख सहज आनंद लहहु ॥

You shall obtain peace, poise and bliss,

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਹਹੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

sādhsaṅgti pāīai vaḍbhāgī gurmukhi hari hari nāmu kahhu ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

साधसंगति पाईऐ वडभागी गुरमुखि हरि हरि नामु कहहु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

When you find the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, by great good fortune. As Gurmukh, utter the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||Pause||

ਬੰਧਨ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਬਨਿਤਾ ॥

bandhan māt pitā sut banitā ॥

बंधन मात पिता सुत बनिता ॥

Mother, father, children and spouse - all place the mortal in bondage.

ਬੰਧਨ ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਹਉ ਕਰਤਾ ॥

bandhan karam dharam hau karatā ॥

बंधन करम धरम हउ करता ॥

Religious rituals and actions done in ego place the mortal in bondage.

ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਨਹਾਰੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ॥

bandhan kāṭnahāru mani vasai ॥

बंधन काटनहारु मनि वसै ॥

If the Lord, the Shatterer of bonds, abides in the mind,

ਤਉ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਬਸੈ ॥੨॥

tau sukhu pāvai nij ghari basai ॥2॥

तउ सुखु पावै निज घरि बसै ॥२॥

Then peace is obtained, dwelling in the home of the self deep within. ||2||

ਸਭਿ ਜਾਚਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰ ॥

sabhi jāchik prabh dēvnahār ॥

सभि जाचिक प्रभ देवनहार ॥

Everyone is a beggar; God is the Great Giver.

ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

guṇ nidhān bēant apār ॥

गुण निधान बेअंत अपार ॥

The Treasure of Virtue is the Infinite, Endless Lord.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਰਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪਨਾ ॥

jis nō karmu karē prabhu apnā ॥

जिस नो करमु करे प्रभु अपना ॥

That person, unto whom God grants His Mercy

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਿਨੈ ਜਨਿ ਜਪਨਾ ॥੩॥

hari hari nāmu tinai jani japnā ॥3॥

हरि हरि नामु तिनै जनि जपना ॥३॥

- that humble being chants the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||3||

ਗੁਰ ਅਪਨੇ ਆਗੈ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥

gur apnē āgai ardāsi ॥

गुर अपने आगै अरदासि ॥

I offer my prayer to my Guru.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਗੁਣਤਾਸਿ ॥

kari kirpā purakh guṇtāsi ॥

करि किरपा पुरख गुणतासि ॥

O Primal Lord God, Treasure of Virtue, please bless me with Your Grace.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥

kahu nānak tumrī sarṇāī ॥

कहु नानक तुमरी सरणाई ॥

Says Nanak, I have come to Your Sanctuary.

ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਖਹੁ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥੪॥੨੮॥੪੧॥

jiu bhāvai tiu rakhhu gusāī ॥4॥28॥41॥

जिउ भावै तिउ रखहु गुसाई ॥४॥२८॥४१॥

If it pleases You, please protect me, O Lord of the World. ||4||28||41||
