ਸਬਦੌ ਹੀ ਭਗਤ ਜਾਪਦੇ ਜਿਨ੍‍ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੀ ਹੋਇ ॥

आसा महला ३ ॥

Aasaa, Third Mehl:

ਸਬਦੌ ਹੀ ਭਗਤ ਜਾਪਦੇ ਜਿਨ੍‍ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੀ ਹੋਇ ॥

sabdau hī bhagat jāpdē jin‍ kī bāṇī sachī hōi ॥

सबदौ ही भगत जापदे जिन्‍ की बाणी सची होइ ॥

Through the Word of the Shabad, the devotees are known; their words are true.

ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਇਆ ਨਾਉ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਸਚਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥

vichhu āpu gaiā nāu manniā sachi milāvā hōi ॥1॥

विचहु आपु गइआ नाउ मंनिआ सचि मिलावा होइ ॥१॥

They eradicate ego from within themselves; they surrender to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and meet with the True One. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥

hari hari nāmu jan kī pati hōi ॥

हरि हरि नामु जन की पति होइ ॥

Through the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, His humble servants obtain honor.

ਸਫਲੁ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਕਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਨ੍‍ ਮਾਨੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

saphlu tinā kā janmu hai tin‍ mānai sabhu kōi ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

सफलु तिन्‍ा का जनमु है तिन्‍ मानै सभु कोइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

How blessed is their coming into the world! Everyone adores them. ||1||Pause||

ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਜਾਤਿ ਹੈ ਅਤਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥

haumai mērā jāti hai ati krōdhu abhimānu ॥

हउमै मेरा जाति है अति क्रोधु अभिमानु ॥

Ego, self-centeredness, excessive anger and pride are the lot of mankind.

ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਤਾ ਜਾਤਿ ਜਾਇ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥੨॥

sabdi marai tā jāti jāi jōtī jōti milai bhagvānu ॥2॥

सबदि मरै ता जाति जाइ जोती जोति मिलै भगवानु ॥२॥

If one dies in the Word of the Shabad, then he is rid of this, and his light is merged into the Light of the Lord God. ||2||

ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਸਫਲ ਜਨਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥

pūrā satiguru bhēṭiā saphal janmu hamārā ॥

पूरा सतिगुरु भेटिआ सफल जनमु हमारा ॥

Meeting with the Perfect True Guru, my life has been blessed.

ਨਾਮੁ ਨਵੈ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਭਰੇ ਅਖੁਟ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥੩॥

nāmu navai nidhi pāiā bharē akhuṭ bhaṇḍārā ॥3॥

नामु नवै निधि पाइआ भरे अखुट भंडारा ॥३॥

I have obtained the nine treasures of the Naam, and my storehouse is inexhaustible, filled to overflowing. ||3||

ਆਵਹਿ ਇਸੁ ਰਾਸੀ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰੀਏ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥

āvahi isu rāsī kē vāpārīē jinā nāmu piārā ॥

आवहि इसु रासी के वापारीए जिन्‍ा नामु पिआरा ॥

Those who love the Naam come as dealers in the merchandise of the Naam.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਏ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੪॥

gurmukhi hōvai sō dhanu pāē tinā antri sabdu vīchārā ॥4॥

गुरमुखि होवै सो धनु पाए तिन्‍ा अंतरि सबदु वीचारा ॥४॥

Those who become Gurmukh obtain this wealth; deep within, they contemplate the Shabad. ||4||

ਭਗਤੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥

bhagtī sār na jāṇnī manmukh ahaṅkārī ॥

भगती सार न जाणन्‍ी मनमुख अहंकारी ॥

The egotistical, self-willed manmukhs do not appreciate the value of devotional worship.

ਧੁਰਹੁ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਇਅਨੁ ਜੂਐ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ॥੫॥

dhurhu āpi khuāianu jūai bājī hārī ॥5॥

धुरहु आपि खुआइअनु जूऐ बाजी हारी ॥५॥

The Primal Lord Himself has beguiled them; they lose their lives in the gamble. ||5||

ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਆਰੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਨਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਸਰੀਰਿ ॥

binu piārai bhagti na hōvaī nā sukhu hōi sarīri ॥

बिनु पिआरै भगति न होवई ना सुखु होइ सरीरि ॥

Without loving affection, devotional worship is not possible, and the body cannot be at peace.

ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਭਗਤੀ ਮਨ ਧੀਰਿ ॥੬॥

prēm padārthu pāīai gur bhagtī man dhīri ॥6॥

प्रेम पदारथु पाईऐ गुर भगती मन धीरि ॥६॥

The wealth of love is obtained from the Guru; through devotion, the mind becomes steady. ||6||

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

jis nō bhagti karāē sō karē gur sabad vīchāri ॥

जिस नो भगति कराए सो करे गुर सबद वीचारि ॥

He alone performs devotional worship, whom the Lord so blesses; he contemplates the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਾਰਿ ॥੭॥

hirdai ēkō nāmu vasai haumai dubidhā māri ॥7॥

हिरदै एको नामु वसै हउमै दुबिधा मारि ॥७॥

The One Name abides in his heart, and he conquers his ego and duality. ||7||

ਭਗਤਾ ਕੀ ਜਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਏਕੋੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥

bhagtā kī jati pati ēkō nāmu hai āpē laē savāri ॥

भगता की जति पति एकुो नामु है आपे लए सवारि ॥

The One Name is the social status and honor of the devotees; the Lord Himself adorns them.

ਸਦਾ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸਾਰਿ ॥੮॥

sadā sarṇāī tis kī jiu bhāvai tiu kārju sāri ॥8॥

सदा सरणाई तिस की जिउ भावै तिउ कारजु सारि ॥८॥

They remain forever in the Protection of His Sanctuary. As it pleases His Will, He arranges their affairs. ||8||

ਭਗਤਿ ਨਿਰਾਲੀ ਅਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਜਾਪੈ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

bhagti nirālī alāh dī jāpai gur vīchāri ॥

भगति निराली अलाह दी जापै गुर वीचारि ॥

The worship of the Lord is unique - it is known only by reflecting upon the Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸੈ ਭੈ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥੯॥੧੪॥੩੬॥

nānak nāmu hirdai vasai bhai bhagtī nāmi savāri ॥9॥14॥36॥

नानक नामु हिरदै वसै भै भगती नामि सवारि ॥९॥१४॥३६॥

O Nanak, one whose mind is filled with the Naam, through the Lord's Fear and devotion, is embellished with the Naam. ||9||14||36||
