ਸ਼ਬਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਹੋਇ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਧੁਨ ਚੇਲਾ॥

ਸ਼ਬਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਹੋਇ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਧੁਨ ਚੇਲਾ॥

shabad gurū gur jāṇīai gurmukh hōi surti dhun chēlā॥

शबद गुरू गुर जाणीऐ गुरमुख होइ सुरति धुन चेला॥

One should accept the word of the Guru as the Guru, and by becoming gurmukh one makes his consciousness the disciple of the Word.

ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਚਖੰਡ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਪਰਚੈ ਹੋਇ ਮੇਲਾ॥

sādh saṅgti sackhaṇḍ vic prēm bhagti parchai hōi mēlā॥

साध संगति सचखंड विच प्रेम भगति परचै होइ मेला॥

When one becomes attached to the abode of truth in the form of holy congregation, he through loving devotion meets the Lord.

ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਧ੍ਯਾਨ ਸਿਮਰਣ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕੂੰਜ ਕੁਰਮ ਹੰਸ ਵੰਸ ਨਵੇਲਾ॥

gyān dhyān simraṇ jugti kūñj kuram haṃs vaṃs navēlā॥

ग्यान ध्यान सिमरण जुगति कूंज कुरम हंस वंस नवेला॥

In the art of knowledge, meditation and rememberance, the Siberian crane, tortoise and swan respectively are adept ones (in gurmukh all these three qualities are found).

ਬਿਰਖਹੁੰ ਫਲ ਫਲ ਤੇ ਬਿਰਖ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਸਿਖ ਗੁਰਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ॥

birkhahuṃ phal phal tē birakh gursikh sikh gurmantr suhēlā॥

बिरखहुं फल फल ते बिरख गुरसिख सिख गुरमंत्र सुहेला॥

As from tree the fruit and from fruit (seed) again the tree is grown i.e. (tree and fruit are the same), so is the simple philosophy that the Guru and the Sikh are the same.

ਵੀਹਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਹੋਇ ਇਕੀਹ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਖੇਲਾ॥

vīhāṃ andar varatmān hōi ikīh agōchar khēlā॥

वीहां अंदर वरतमान होइ इकीह अगोचर खेला॥

Word of the Guru is present in the world but beyond this is the ekankar (ikis) occupied in His invisible game (of creation and destruction).

ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਆਦੇਸ ਕਰ ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਆਦੇਸ਼ ਵਹੇਲਾ॥

ādi purakh ādēs kar ādi purakh ādēsh vahēlā॥

आदि पुरख आदेस कर आदि पुरख आदेश वहेला॥

Bowing before that primeval Lord that power of the Word in His hukam merges into Him.

ਸਿਫਤ ਸਲਾਹਣ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲਾ ॥੨੦॥੭॥

siphat salāhaṇ ammrit vēlā ॥20॥7॥

सिफत सलाहण अंम्रित वेला ॥२०॥७॥

Ambrosial hours are the correct time for His praise.
