ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣੀ ਜਾਇ ਸੀਸ ਨਿਵਾਇਆ॥

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣੀ ਜਾਇ ਸੀਸ ਨਿਵਾਇਆ॥

satigur sarṇī jāi sīs nivāiā॥

सतिगुर सरणी जाइ सीस निवाइआ॥

He is true Sikh who surrenders before the Guru and bows his head;

ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨੀ ਚਿਤ ਲਾਇ ਮਥਾ ਲਾਇਆ॥

gur charnī chit lāi mathā lāiā॥

गुर चरनी चित लाइ मथा लाइआ॥

Who puts his mind and forehead on the feet of Guru;

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਾਇ ਆਪ ਗਵਾਇਆ॥

gurmati ridai vasāi āp gavāiā॥

गुरमति रिदै वसाइ आप गवाइआ॥

Who holding dear to his heart the teachings of the Guru expels ego from his self;

ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਾਇਆ॥

gurmukh sahaj subhāi bhāṇā bhāiā॥

गुरमुख सहज सुभाइ भाणा भाइआ॥

Who loves the will of Lord and has attained equipoise by becoming Guru-oriented, gurmukh;

ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ਹੁਕਮ ਕਮਾਇਆ॥

shabad surti liv lāi hukam kamāiā॥

शबद सुरति लिव लाइ हुकम कमाइआ॥

Who by merging his consciousness in the Word has acted according to the divine Will (hukam).

ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਨਿਜ ਘਰ ਪਾਇਆ॥

sādh saṅgat bhai bhāi nij ghar pāiā॥

साध संगत भै भाइ निज घर पाइआ॥

He (the true Sikh) as the result of his love and fear of holy congregation attains his own self (atma).

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਪਤੀਆਇ ਭਵਰ ਲੁਭਾਇਆ॥

charan kamal patīāi bhavar lubhāiā॥

चरन कमल पतीआइ भवर लुभाइआ॥

He remains stuck to the lotus feet of the Guru like the black bee.

ਸੁਖ ਸੰਪਤ ਪਰਚਾਇ ਅਮਿਉ ਪੀਆਇਆ॥

sukh sampat parchāi amiu pīāiā॥

सुख संपत परचाइ अमिउ पीआइआ॥

Getting enevloped in this delight he goes on quaffing the nectar.

ਧੰਨ ਜਣੇਂਦੀ ਮਾਇ ਸਹਿਲਾ ਆਇਆ ॥੨੦॥੩॥

dhann jaṇēndī māi sahilā āiā ॥20॥3॥

धंन जणेंदी माइ सहिला आइआ ॥२०॥३॥

Blest is the mother of such a person. Only his coming to this world is fruitful.
