ਪੁਰਖ ਪਤੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਗਹੀ ॥

आसा महला ५ ॥

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਪੁਰਖ ਪਤੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਗਹੀ ॥

purakh patē bhagvān tā kī sarṇi gahī ॥

पुरख पते भगवान ता की सरणि गही ॥

The Primal Lord is the Lord God of all beings. I have taken to His Sanctuary.

ਨਿਰਭਉ ਭਏ ਪਰਾਨ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਸਗਲ ਲਹੀ ॥

nirbhau bhaē parān chintā sagal lahī ॥

निरभउ भए परान चिंता सगल लही ॥

My life has become fearless, and all my anxieties have been removed.

ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਮੀਤ ਸੁਰਿਜਨ ਇਸਟ ਬੰਧਪ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥

māt pitā sut mīt surijan isaṭ bandhap jāṇiā ॥

मात पिता सुत मीत सुरिजन इसट बंधप जाणिआ ॥

I know the Lord as my mother, father, son, friend, well-wisher and close relative.

ਗਹਿ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਜਸੁ ਬਿਮਲ ਸੰਤ ਵਖਾਣਿਆ ॥

gahi kaṇṭhi lāiā guri milāiā jasu bimal sant vakhāṇiā ॥

गहि कंठि लाइआ गुरि मिलाइआ जसु बिमल संत वखाणिआ ॥

The Guru has led me to embrace Him; the Saints chant His Pure Praises.

ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣ ਅਨੇਕ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਕਹੀ ॥

bēant guṇ anēk mahimā kīmti kachhū na jāi kahī ॥

बेअंत गुण अनेक महिमा कीमति कछू न जाइ कही ॥

His Glorious Virtues are infinite, and His greatness is unlimited. His value cannot be described at all.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਏਕ ਅਨਿਕ ਅਲਖ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਓਟ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਗਹੀ ॥੧॥

prabh ēk anik alakh ṭhākur ōṭ nānak tisu gahī ॥1॥

प्रभ एक अनिक अलख ठाकुर ओट नानक तिसु गही ॥१॥

God is the One and only, the Unseen Lord and Master; O Nanak, I have grasped His protection. ||1||

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਨੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਸਹਾਈ ਆਪਿ ਭਏ ॥

ammrit banu saṃsāru sahāī āpi bhaē ॥

अंम्रित बनु संसारु सहाई आपि भए ॥

The world is a pool of nectar, when the Lord becomes our helper.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰ ਹਾਰੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਕੇ ਦਿਵਸ ਗਏ ॥

rām nāmu ur hāru bikhu kē divas gaē ॥

राम नामु उर हारु बिखु के दिवस गए ॥

One who wears the necklace of the Lord's Name - his days of suffering are ended.

ਗਤੁ ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਜੋਨਿ ਆਵਣ ਸਭ ਰਹੇ ॥

gatu bharam mōh bikār binsē jōni āvaṇ sabh rahē ॥

गतु भरम मोह बिकार बिनसे जोनि आवण सभ रहे ॥

His state of doubt, attachment and sin is erased, and the cycle of reincarnation into the womb is totally ended.

ਅਗਨਿ ਸਾਗਰ ਭਏ ਸੀਤਲ ਸਾਧ ਅੰਚਲ ਗਹਿ ਰਹੇ ॥

agni sāgar bhaē sītal sādh añchal gahi rahē ॥

अगनि सागर भए सीतल साध अंचल गहि रहे ॥

The ocean of fire becomes cool, when one grasps the hem of the robe of the Holy Saint.

ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਦਇਆਲ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਿਥ ਬੋਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਹਰਿ ਜੈ ਜਏ ॥

gōvind gupāl daiāl sammrith bōli sādhū hari jai jaē ॥

गोविंद गुपाल दइआल संम्रिथ बोलि साधू हरि जै जए ॥

The Lord of the Universe, the Sustainer of the World, the merciful all-powerful Lord - the Holy Saints proclaim the victory of the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਈ ਪਰਮ ਗਤੇ ॥੨॥

nānak nāmu dhiāi pūran sādhsaṅgi pāī param gatē ॥2॥

नानक नामु धिआइ पूरन साधसंगि पाई परम गते ॥२॥

O Nanak, meditating on the Naam, in the perfect Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I have obtained the supreme status. ||2||

ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਸੰਗਿ ਏਕੋ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥

jah dēkhau tah saṅgi ēkō ravi rahiā ॥

जह देखउ तह संगि एको रवि रहिआ ॥

Wherever I look, there I find the One Lord permeating and pervading all.

ਘਟ ਘਟ ਵਾਸੀ ਆਪਿ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਕਿਨੈ ਲਹਿਆ ॥

ghaṭ ghaṭ vāsī āpi virlai kinai lahiā ॥

घट घट वासी आपि विरलै किनै लहिआ ॥

In each and every heart, He Himself dwells, but how rare is that person who realizes this.

ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਪੂਰਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਕੀਟ ਹਸਤਿ ਸਮਾਨਿਆ ॥

jali thali mahīli pūri pūran kīṭ hasti samāniā ॥

जलि थलि महीअलि पूरि पूरन कीट हसति समानिआ ॥

The Lord is permeating and pervading the water, the land and the sky; He is contained in the ant and the elephant.

ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤੇ ਮਧਿ ਸੋਈ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥

ādi antē madhi sōī gur prasādī jāniā ॥

आदि अंते मधि सोई गुर प्रसादी जानिआ ॥

In the beginning, in the middle and in the end, He exists. By Guru's Grace, He is known.

ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਲੀਲਾ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਜਨਿ ਕਹਿਆ ॥

brahmu pasriā braham līlā gōvind guṇ nidhi jani kahiā ॥

ब्रहमु पसरिआ ब्रहम लीला गोविंद गुण निधि जनि कहिआ ॥

God created the expanse of the universe, God created the play of the world. His humble servants call Him the Lord of the Universe, the treasure of virtue.

ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥੩॥

simri suāmī antrajāmī hari ēku nānak ravi rahiā ॥3॥

सिमरि सुआमी अंतरजामी हरि एकु नानक रवि रहिआ ॥३॥

Meditate in remembrance on the Lord Master, the Searcher of hearts; O Nanak, He is the One, pervading and permeating all. ||3||

ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੜੀ ਆਈ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰੇ ॥

dinu raiṇi suhāvṛī āī simrat nāmu harē ॥

दिनु रैणि सुहावड़ी आई सिमरत नामु हरे ॥

Day and night, become beauteous by remembering the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਸੰਗਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਲਮਲ ਪਾਪ ਟਰੇ ॥

charaṇ kamal saṅgi prīti kalmal pāp ṭarē ॥

चरण कमल संगि प्रीति कलमल पाप टरे ॥

In love with the Lord's Lotus Feet, corruption and sin depart.

ਦੂਖ ਭੂਖ ਦਾਰਿਦ੍ਰ ਨਾਠੇ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਮਗੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥

dūkh bhūkh dāridr nāṭhē pragṭu magu dikhāiā ॥

दूख भूख दारिद्र नाठे प्रगटु मगु दिखाइआ ॥

Pain, hunger and poverty run away, and the path is clearly revealed.

ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੇ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗੇ ਮਨਿ ਲੋੜੀਦਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

mili sādhsaṅgē nām raṅgē mani lōṛīdā pāiā ॥

मिलि साधसंगे नाम रंगे मनि लोड़ीदा पाइआ ॥

Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, one is attuned to the Naam, and obtains the desires of the mind.

ਹਰਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਇਛ ਪੁੰਨੀ ਕੁਲ ਸੰਬੂਹਾ ਸਭਿ ਤਰੇ ॥

hari dēkhi darsanu ichh punnī kul sambūhā sabhi tarē ॥

हरि देखि दरसनु इछ पुंनी कुल संबूहा सभि तरे ॥

Beholding the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, desires are fulfilled; all one's family and relatives are saved.

ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਅਨੰਦ ਅਨਦਿ???ੁ ਸਿਮਰੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰੇ ॥੪॥੬॥੯॥

dinsu raiṇi anand andinu simrant nānak hari harē ॥4॥6॥9॥

दिनसु रैणि अनंद अनदिनु सिमरंत नानक हरि हरे ॥४॥६॥९॥

Day and night, he is in bliss, night and day, remembering the Lord in meditation, O Nanak. ||4||6||9||
