ਪਰਦੇਸੁ ਝਾਗਿ ਸਉਦੇ ਕਉ ਆਇਆ ॥

आसा महला ५ ॥

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਪਰਦੇਸੁ ਝਾਗਿ ਸਉਦੇ ਕਉ ਆਇਆ ॥

pardēsu jhāgi saudē kau āiā ॥

परदेसु झागि सउदे कउ आइआ ॥

Having wandered through foreign lands, I have come here to do business.

ਵਸਤੁ ਅਨੂਪ ਸੁਣੀ ਲਾਭਾਇਆ ॥

vastu anūp suṇī lābhāiā ॥

वसतु अनूप सुणी लाभाइआ ॥

I heard of the incomparable and profitable merchandise.

ਗੁਣ ਰਾਸਿ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਪਲੈ ਆਨੀ ॥

guṇ rāsi bann‍ iplai ānī ॥

गुण रासि बंन्‍ िपलै आनी ॥

I have gathered in my pockets my capital of virtue, and I have brought it here with me.

ਦੇਖਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਪਟਾਨੀ ॥੧॥

dēkhi ratnu ihu manu lapṭānī ॥1॥

देखि रतनु इहु मनु लपटानी ॥१॥

Beholding the jewel, this mind is fascinated. ||1||

ਸਾਹ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਆਏ ॥

sāh vāpārī duārai āē ॥

साह वापारी दुआरै आए ॥

I have come to the door of the Trader.

ਵਖਰੁ ਕਾਢਹੁ ਸਉਦਾ ਕਰਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

vakhru kāḍhhu saudā karāē ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

वखरु काढहु सउदा कराए ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Please display the merchandise, so that the business may be transacted. ||1||Pause||

ਸਾਹਿ ਪਠਾਇਆ ਸਾਹੈ ਪਾਸਿ ॥

sāhi paṭhāiā sāhai pāsi ॥

साहि पठाइआ साहै पासि ॥

The Trader has sent me to the Banker.

ਅਮੋਲ ਰਤਨ ਅਮੋਲਾ ਰਾਸਿ ॥

amōl ratan amōlā rāsi ॥

अमोल रतन अमोला रासि ॥

The jewel is priceless, and the capital is priceless.

ਵਿਸਟੁ ਸੁਭਾਈ ਪਾਇਆ ਮੀਤ ॥

visṭu subhāī pāiā mīt ॥

विसटु सुभाई पाइआ मीत ॥

O my gentle brother, mediator and friend

ਸਉਦਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਚੀਤ ॥੨॥

saudā miliā nihchal chīt ॥2॥

सउदा मिलिआ निहचल चीत ॥२॥

- I have obtained the merchandise, and my consciousness is now steady and stable. ||2||

ਭਉ ਨਹੀ ਤਸਕਰ ਪਉਣ ਨ ਪਾਨੀ ॥

bhau nahī taskar pauṇ na pānī ॥

भउ नही तसकर पउण न पानी ॥

I have no fear of thieves, of wind or water.

ਸਹਜਿ ਵਿਹਾਝੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਨੀ ॥

sahji vihājhī sahji lai jānī ॥

सहजि विहाझी सहजि लै जानी ॥

I have easily made my purchase, and I easily take it away.

ਸਤ ਕੈ ਖਟਿਐ ਦੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

sat kai khaṭiai dukhu nahī pāiā ॥

सत कै खटिऐ दुखु नही पाइआ ॥

I have earned Truth, and I shall have no pain.

ਸਹੀ ਸਲਾਮਤਿ ਘਰਿ ਲੈ ਆਇਆ ॥੩॥

sahī salāmti ghari lai āiā ॥3॥

सही सलामति घरि लै आइआ ॥३॥

I have brought this merchandise home, safe and sound. ||3||

ਮਿਲਿਆ ਲਾਹਾ ਭਏ ਅਨੰਦ ॥

miliā lāhā bhaē anand ॥

मिलिआ लाहा भए अनंद ॥

I have earned the profit, and I am happy.

ਧੰਨੁ ਸਾਹ ਪੂਰੇ ਬਖਸਿੰਦ ॥

dhannu sāh pūrē bakhsind ॥

धंनु साह पूरे बखसिंद ॥

Blessed is the Banker, the Perfect Bestower.

ਇਹੁ ਸਉਦਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

ihu saudā gurmukhi kinai virlai pāiā ॥

इहु सउदा गुरमुखि किनै विरलै पाइआ ॥

How rare is the Gurmukh who obtains this merchandise;

ਸਹਲੀ ਖੇਪ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਲੈ ਆਇਆ ॥੪॥੬॥

sahlī khēp nānku lai āiā ॥4॥6॥

सहली खेप नानकु लै आइआ ॥४॥६॥

Nanak has brought this profitable merchandise home. ||4||6||
