ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਸਾਸਤ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਪੜਿਆ ॥

ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ਚਉਥਾ ਚਉਪਦੇ

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ik-ōṅkār satigur prasādi ॥

ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਸਾਸਤ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਪੜਿਆ ॥

paṇḍitu sāsat simriti paṛiā ॥

पंडितु सासत सिम्रिति पड़िआ ॥

The Pandit - the religious scholar - recites the Shaastras and the Simritees;

ਜੋਗੀ ਗੋਰਖੁ ਗੋਰਖੁ ਕਰਿਆ ॥

jōgī gōrkhu gōrkhu kariā ॥

जोगी गोरखु गोरखु करिआ ॥

The Yogi cries out, ""Gorakh, Gorakh"".

ਮੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੁ ਪੜਿਆ ॥੧॥

mai mūrakh hari hari japu paṛiā ॥1॥

मै मूरख हरि हरि जपु पड़िआ ॥१॥

But I am just a fool - I just chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||

ਨਾ ਜਾਨਾ ਕਿਆ ਗਤਿ ਰਾਮ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥

nā jānā kiā gati rām hamārī ॥

ना जाना किआ गति राम हमारी ॥

I do not know what my condition shall be, Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਭਜੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤਰੁ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਤੂ ਤਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

hari bhaju man mērē taru bhaujlu tū tārī ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

हरि भजु मन मेरे तरु भउजलु तू तारी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

O my mind, vibrate and meditate on the Name of the Lord. You shall cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||1||Pause||

ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਬਿਭੂਤ ਲਾਇ ਦੇਹ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥

sanniāsī bibhūt lāi dēh savārī ॥

संनिआसी बिभूत लाइ देह सवारी ॥

The Sannyaasee smears his body with ashes;

ਪਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਤਿਆਗੁ ਕਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਚਾਰੀ ॥

par tria tiāgu karī brahamchārī ॥

पर त्रिअ तिआगु करी ब्रहमचारी ॥

Renouncing other men's women, he practices celibacy.

ਮੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਹਰਿ ਆਸ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥੨॥

mai mūrakh hari ās tumārī ॥2॥

मै मूरख हरि आस तुमारी ॥२॥

I am just a fool, Lord; I place my hopes in You! ||2||

ਖਤ੍ਰੀ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਸੂਰਤਣੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

khatrī karam karē sūrtaṇu pāvai ॥

खत्री करम करे सूरतणु पावै ॥

The Kh'shaatriya acts bravely, and is recognized as a warrior.

ਸੂਦੁ ਵੈਸੁ ਪਰ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥

sūdu vaisu par kirti kamāvai ॥

सूदु वैसु पर किरति कमावै ॥

The Shoodra and the Vaisha work and slave for others;

ਮੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਛਡਾਵੈ ॥੩॥

mai mūrakh hari nāmu chhaḍāvai ॥3॥

मै मूरख हरि नामु छडावै ॥३॥

I am just a fool - I am saved by the Lord's Name. ||3||

ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥

sabh tērī srisṭi tūṃ āpi rahiā samāī ॥

सभ तेरी स्रिसटि तूं आपि रहिआ समाई ॥

The entire Universe is Yours; You Yourself permeate and pervade it.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

gurmukhi nānak dē vaḍiāī ॥

गुरमुखि नानक दे वडिआई ॥

O Nanak, the Gurmukhs are blessed with glorious greatness.

ਮੈ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਟੇਕ ਟਿਕਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥੩੯॥

mai andhulē hari ṭēk ṭikāī ॥4॥1॥39॥

मै अंधुले हरि टेक टिकाई ॥४॥१॥३९॥

I am blind - I have taken the Lord as my Support. ||4||1||39||
