ਪੰਡਿਤ ਜਨ ਮਾਤੇ ਪੜ੍‍ ਿਪੁਰਾਨ ॥

ਪੰਡਿਤ ਜਨ ਮਾਤੇ ਪੜ੍‍ ਿਪੁਰਾਨ ॥

paṇḍit jan mātē paṛ‍ ipurān ॥

पंडित जन माते पड़्‍ िपुरान ॥

The Pandits, the Hindu religious scholars, are intoxicated, reading the Puraanas.

ਜੋਗੀ ਮਾਤੇ ਜੋਗ ਧਿਆਨ ॥

jōgī mātē jōg dhiān ॥

जोगी माते जोग धिआन ॥

The Yogis are intoxicated in Yoga and meditation.

ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਮਾਤੇ ਅਹੰਮੇਵ ॥

sanniāsī mātē ahmmēv ॥

संनिआसी माते अहंमेव ॥

The Sannyaasees are intoxicated in egotism.

ਤਪਸੀ ਮਾਤੇ ਤਪ ਕੈ ਭੇਵ ॥੧॥

tapsī mātē tap kai bhēv ॥1॥

तपसी माते तप कै भेव ॥१॥

The penitents are intoxicated with the mystery of penance. ||1||

ਸਭ ਮਦ ਮਾਤੇ ਕੋਊ ਨ ਜਾਗ ॥

sabh mad mātē kōū na jāg ॥

सभ मद माते कोऊ न जाग ॥

All are intoxicated with the wine of Maya; no one is awake and aware.

ਸੰਗ ਹੀ ਚੋਰ ਘਰੁ ਮੁਸਨ ਲਾਗ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

saṅg hī chōr gharu musan lāg ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

संग ही चोर घरु मुसन लाग ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

The thieves are with them, plundering their homes. ||1||Pause||

ਜਾਗੈ ਸੁਕਦੇਉ ਅਰੁ ਅਕੂਰੁ ॥

jāgai sukdēu aru akūru ॥

जागै सुकदेउ अरु अकूरु ॥

Suk Dayv and Akrur are awake and aware.

ਹਣਵੰਤੁ ਜਾਗੈ ਧਰਿ ਲੰਕੂਰੁ ॥

haṇvantu jāgai dhari laṅkūru ॥

हणवंतु जागै धरि लंकूरु ॥

Hanuman with his tail is awake and aware.

ਸੰਕਰੁ ਜਾਗੈ ਚਰਨ ਸੇਵ ॥

saṅkru jāgai charan sēv ॥

संकरु जागै चरन सेव ॥

Shiva is awake, serving at the Lord's Feet.

ਕਲਿ ਜਾਗੇ ਨਾਮਾ ਜੈਦੇਵ ॥੨॥

kali jāgē nāmā jaidēv ॥2॥

कलि जागे नामा जैदेव ॥२॥

Naam Dayv and Jai Dayv are awake in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga. ||2||

ਜਾਗਤ ਸੋਵਤ ਬਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ॥

jāgat sōvat bahu prakār ॥

जागत सोवत बहु प्रकार ॥

There are many ways of being awake, and sleeping.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਗੈ ਸੋਈ ਸਾਰੁ ॥

gurmukhi jāgai sōī sāru ॥

गुरमुखि जागै सोई सारु ॥

To be awake as Gurmukh is the most excellent way.

ਇਸੁ ਦੇਹੀ ਕੇ ਅਧਿਕ ਕਾਮ ॥

isu dēhī kē adhik kām ॥

इसु देही के अधिक काम ॥

The most sublime of all the actions of this body,

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਭਜਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ॥੩॥੨॥

kahi kabīr bhaji rām nām ॥3॥2॥

कहि कबीर भजि राम नाम ॥३॥२॥

Says Kabeer, is to meditate and vibrate on the Lord's Name. ||3||2||
