ਪਡੀਆ ਕਵਨ ਕੁਮਤਿ ਤੁਮ ਲਾਗੇ ॥

ਰਾਗੁ ਮਾਰੂ ਬਾਣੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀਉ ਕੀ

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ਪਡੀਆ ਕਵਨ ਕੁਮਤਿ ਤੁਮ ਲਾਗੇ ॥

paḍīā kavan kumti tum lāgē ॥

पडीआ कवन कुमति तुम लागे ॥

O Pandit, O religious scholar, in what foul thoughts are you engaged?

ਬੂਡਹੁਗੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਸਕਲ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਪਹੁ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

būḍhugē parvār sakal siu rāmu na japhu abhāgē ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

बूडहुगे परवार सकल सिउ रामु न जपहु अभागे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

You shall be drowned, along with your family, if you do not meditate on the Lord, you unfortunate person. ||1||Pause||

ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਪੜੇ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਗੁਨੁ ਖਰ ਚੰਦਨ ਜਸ ਭਾਰਾ ॥

bēd purān paṛē kā kiā gunu khar chandan jas bhārā ॥

बेद पुरान पड़े का किआ गुनु खर चंदन जस भारा ॥

What is the use of reading the Vedas and the Puraanas? It is like loading a donkey with sandalwood.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨੀ ਕੈਸੇ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰਾ ॥੧॥

rām nām kī gati nahī jānī kaisē utrasi pārā ॥1॥

राम नाम की गति नही जानी कैसे उतरसि पारा ॥१॥

You do not know the exalted state of the Lord's Name; how will you ever cross over? ||1||

ਜੀਅ ਬਧਹੁ ਸੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਥਾਪਹੁ ਅਧਰਮੁ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਤ ਭਾਈ ॥

jīa badhhu su dharmu kari thāphu adhramu kahhu kat bhāī ॥

जीअ बधहु सु धरमु करि थापहु अधरमु कहहु कत भाई ॥

You kill living beings, and call it a righteous action. Tell me, brother, what would you call an unrighteous action?

ਆਪਸ ਕਉ ਮੁਨਿਵਰ ਕਰਿ ਥਾਪਹੁ ਕਾ ਕਉ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਸਾਈ ॥੨॥

āpas kau munivar kari thāphu kā kau kahhu kasāī ॥2॥

आपस कउ मुनिवर करि थापहु का कउ कहहु कसाई ॥२॥

You call yourself the most excellent sage; then who would you call a butcher? ||2||

ਮਨ ਕੇ ਅੰਧੇ ਆਪਿ ਨ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਕਾਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਵਹੁ ਭਾਈ ॥

man kē andhē āpi na būjhhu kāhi bujhāvhu bhāī ॥

मन के अंधे आपि न बूझहु काहि बुझावहु भाई ॥

You are blind in your mind, and do not understand your own self; how can you make others understand, O brother?

ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਰਨ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਬੇਚਹੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥

māiā kāran bidiā bēchhu janmu abirthā jāī ॥3॥

माइआ कारन बिदिआ बेचहु जनमु अबिरथा जाई ॥३॥

For the sake of Maya and money, you sell knowledge; your life is totally worthless. ||3||

ਨਾਰਦ ਬਚਨ ਬਿਆਸੁ ਕਹਤ ਹੈ ਸੁਕ ਕਉ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਜਾਈ ॥

nārad bachan biāsu kahat hai suk kau pūchhahhu jāī ॥

नारद बचन बिआसु कहत है सुक कउ पूछहु जाई ॥

Naarad and Vyaasa say these things; go and ask Suk Dayv as well.

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਰਾਮੈ ਰਮਿ ਛੂਟਹੁ ਨਾਹਿ ਤ ਬੂਡੇ ਭਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥

kahi kabīr rāmai rami chhūṭhu nāhi ta būḍē bhāī ॥4॥1॥

कहि कबीर रामै रमि छूटहु नाहि त बूडे भाई ॥४॥१॥

Says Kabeer, chanting the Lord's Name, you shall be saved; otherwise, you shall drown, brother. ||4||1||
