ਪਾਵ ਸੁਹਾਵੇ ਜਾਂ ਤਉ ਧਿਰਿ ਜੁਲਦੇ ਸੀਸੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ਚਰਣੀ ॥

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

आसा महला ५ ॥

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਪਾਵਤੁ ਰਲੀਆ ਜੋਬਨਿ ਬਲੀਆ ॥

pāvtu ralīā jōbni balīā ॥

पावतु रलीआ जोबनि बलीआ ॥

The mortal revels in joy, in the vigor of youth;

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਾਟੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਲੀਆ ॥੧॥

nām binā māṭī saṅgi ralīā ॥1॥

नाम बिना माटी संगि रलीआ ॥१॥

But without the Name, he mingles with dust. ||1||

ਕਾਨ ਕੁੰਡਲੀਆ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਓਢਲੀਆ ॥

kān kuṇḍlīā basatr ōḍhlīā ॥

कान कुंडलीआ बसत्र ओढलीआ ॥

He may wear ear-rings and fine clothes,

ਸੇਜ ਸੁਖਲੀਆ ਮਨਿ ਗਰਬਲੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

sēj sukhlīā mani garbalīā ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

सेज सुखलीआ मनि गरबलीआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

And have a comfortable bed, and his mind may be so proud. ||1||Pause||

ਤਲੈ ਕੁੰਚਰੀਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਨਿਕ ਛਤਰੀਆ ॥

talai kuñcrīā siri kanik chhatarīā ॥

तलै कुंचरीआ सिरि कनिक छतरीआ ॥

He may have elephants to ride, and golden umbrellas over his head;

ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਬਿਨਾ ਲੇ ਧਰਨਿ ਗਡਲੀਆ ॥੨॥

hari bhagti binā lē dharni gaḍlīā ॥2॥

हरि भगति बिना ले धरनि गडलीआ ॥२॥

But without devotional worship to the Lord, he is buried beneath the dirt. ||2||

ਰੂਪ ਸੁੰਦਰੀਆ ਅਨਿਕ ਇਸਤਰੀਆ ॥

rūp sundarīā anik istarīā ॥

रूप सुंदरीआ अनिक इसतरीआ ॥

He may enjoy many women, of exquisite beauty;

ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਭਿ ਸੁਆਦ ਫਿਕਰੀਆ ॥੩॥

hari ras binu sabhi suād phikrīā ॥3॥

हरि रस बिनु सभि सुआद फिकरीआ ॥३॥

But without the sublime essence of the Lord, all tastes are tasteless. ||3||

ਮਾਇਆ ਛਲੀਆ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਬਿਖਲੀਆ ॥

māiā chhalīā bikār bikhlīā ॥

माइआ छलीआ बिकार बिखलीआ ॥

Deluded by Maya, the mortal is led into sin and corruption.

ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਇਅਲੀਆ ॥੪॥੪॥੫੫॥

sarṇi nānak prabh purakh daialīā ॥4॥4॥55॥

सरणि नानक प्रभ पुरख दइअलीआ ॥४॥४॥५५॥

Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of God, the All-powerful, Compassionate Lord. ||4||4||55||
