ਉੱਤਮ ਮਧੱਮ ਨੀਚ ਲਖ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਨੀਚਹੁ ਨੀਚ ਸਦਾਏ॥

ਉੱਤਮ ਮਧੱਮ ਨੀਚ ਲਖ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਨੀਚਹੁ ਨੀਚ ਸਦਾਏ॥

uttam madhamm nīch lakh gurmukh nīchhhu nīch sadāē॥

उॱतम मधॱम नीच लख गुरमुख नीचहु नीच सदाए॥

Millions are low, medium and high but gurmukh calls himself low of the lowly.

ਪੈਰੀ ਪੈ ਪਾਖਾਕ ਹੋਇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਆਪ ਗਵਾਏ॥

pairī pai pākhāk hōi gurmukh gur sikh āp gavāē॥

पैरी पै पाखाक होइ गुरमुख गुर सिख आप गवाए॥

He becoming dust of the feet and guru’s disciple erases his ego.

ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਭਉ ਭਾਉ ਕਰ ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਏ॥

sādh saṅgat bhau bhāu kar sēvak sēv kār kamāē॥

साध संगत भउ भाउ कर सेवक सेव कार कमाए॥

Going with love and respect to the holy congregation, he serves there.

ਮਿਠਾ ਬੋਲਨ ਨਿਵ ਚਲਣ ਹਥਹੁੰ ਦੇਕੈ ਭਲਾ ਮਨਾਏ॥

miṭhā bōlan niv chalaṇ hathhuṃ dēkai bhalā manāē॥

मिठा बोलन निव चलण हथहुं देकै भला मनाए॥

He speaks mildly, behaves humbly and even by giving something to somebody wishes good of others.

ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਰਤ ਲਿਵਲੀਣ ਹੋ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਾਣ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਪਾਏ॥

shabad surat livlīṇ hō dargah māṇ nimāṇā pāē॥

शबद सुरत लिवलीण हो दरगह माण निमाणा पाए॥

Absorbing consciousness into the Word that humble person receives honour in the court of the Lord.

ਚਲਣ ਜਾਣ ਅਜਾਣ ਹੋਇ ਆਸਾ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਵਲਾਏ॥

chalaṇ jāṇ ajāṇ hōi āsā vic nirās valāē॥

चलण जाण अजाण होइ आसा विच निरास वलाए॥

Considering death as the last truth and becoming unknown to cunningness he remains indifferent to hopes and desires.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਅਲਖ ਲਖਾਏ ॥੨੪॥੮॥

gurmukh sukh phal alakh lakhāē ॥24॥8॥

गुरमुख सुख फल अलख लखाए ॥२४॥८॥

The imperceptible fruit of delight is seen and received only by Gurmukh.
