ਉਗਵੈ ਸੂਰੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਸਭ ਰੈਨਿ ਸਮ੍‍ਾਲਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਲ

ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥

Prabhaatee, Fourth Mehl:

ਉਗਵੈ ਸੂਰੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਸਭ ਰੈਨਿ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਲਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਲ ॥

ugvai sūru gurmukhi hari bōlahi sabh raini samālahi hari gāl ॥

उगवै सूरु गुरमुखि हरि बोलहि सभ रैनि सम्‍ालहि हरि गाल ॥

With the rising of the sun, the Gurmukh speaks of the Lord. All through the night, he dwells upon the Sermon of the Lord.

ਹਮਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਹਮ ਲੋਚ ਲਗਾਈ ਹਮ ਕਰਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਲ ॥੧॥

hamrai prabhi ham lōc lagāī ham karah prabhū hari bhāl ॥1॥

हमरै प्रभि हम लोच लगाई हम करह प्रभू हरि भाल ॥१॥

My God has infused this longing within me; I seek my Lord God. ||1||

ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਧੂਰਿ ਰਵਾਲ ॥

mērā manu sādhū dhūri ravāl ॥

मेरा मनु साधू धूरि रवाल ॥

My mind is the dust of the feet of the Holy.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਓ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੀਠਾ ਗੁਰ ਪਗ ਝਾਰਹ ਹਮ ਬਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

hari hari nāmu driṛāiō guri mīṭhā gur pag jhārah ham bāl ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

हरि हरि नामु द्रिड़ाइओ गुरि मीठा गुर पग झारह हम बाल ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

The Guru has implanted the Sweet Name of the Lord, Har, Har, within me. I dust the Guru's Feet with my hair. ||1||Pause||

ਸਾਕਤ ਕਉ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਅੰਧਾਰੀ ਮੋਹਿ ਫਾਥੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾਲ ॥

sākat kau dinu raini andhārī mōhi phāthē māiā jāl ॥

साकत कउ दिनु रैनि अंधारी मोहि फाथे माइआ जाल ॥

Dark are the days and nights of the faithless cynics; they are caught in the trap of attachment to Maya.

ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਨ ਵਸਿਓ ਰਿਨਿ ਬਾਧੇ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਬਾਲ ॥੨॥

khinu palu hari prabhu ridai na vasiō rini bādhē bahu bidhi bāl ॥2॥

खिनु पलु हरि प्रभु रिदै न वसिओ रिनि बाधे बहु बिधि बाल ॥२॥

The Lord God does not dwell in their hearts, even for an instant; every hair of their heads is totally tied up in debts. ||2||

ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਮਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ਹਉ ਛੂਟੇ ਮਮਤਾ ਜਾਲ ॥

satsaṅgti mili mati budhi pāī hau chhūṭē mamtā jāl ॥

सतसंगति मिलि मति बुधि पाई हउ छूटे ममता जाल ॥

Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, wisdom and understanding are obtained, and one is released from the traps of egotism and possessiveness.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਹਰਿ ਮੀਠ ਲਗਾਨਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਏ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੩॥

hari nāmā hari mīṭh lagānā guri kīē sabdi nihāl ॥3॥

हरि नामा हरि मीठ लगाना गुरि कीए सबदि निहाल ॥३॥

The Lord's Name, and the Lord, seem sweet to me. Through the Word of His Shabad, the Guru has made me happy. ||3||

ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਗੁਰ ਅਗਮ ਗੁਸਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥

ham bārik gur agam gusāī gur kari kirpā pratipāl ॥

हम बारिक गुर अगम गुसाई गुर करि किरपा प्रतिपाल ॥

I am just a child; the Guru is the Unfathomable Lord of the World. In His Mercy, He cherishes and sustains me.

ਬਿਖੁ ਭਉਜਲ ਡੁਬਦੇ ਕਾਢਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਾਲ ਗੁਪਾਲ ॥੪॥੨॥

bikhu bhaujal ḍubdē kāḍhi lēhu prabh gur nānak bāl gupāl ॥4॥2॥

बिखु भउजल डुबदे काढि लेहु प्रभ गुर नानक बाल गुपाल ॥४॥२॥

I am drowning in the ocean of poison; O God, Guru, Lord of the World, please save Your child, Nanak. ||4||2||
