ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਮਨੁ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਭਇਆ ॥

Bhairao, Fifth Mehl:

ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਮਨੁ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਭਇਆ ॥

nāmu lait manu pargaṭu bhaiā ॥

नामु लैत मनु परगटु भइआ ॥

Repeating the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the mortal is exalted and glorified.

ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਪਾਪੁ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਗਇਆ ॥

nāmu lait pāpu tan tē gaiā ॥

नामु लैत पापु तन ते गइआ ॥

Repeating the Naam, sin is banished from the body.

ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਸਗਲ ਪੁਰਬਾਇਆ ॥

nāmu lait sagal purbāiā ॥

नामु लैत सगल पुरबाइआ ॥

Repeating the Naam, all festivals are celebrated.

ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਮਜਨਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

nāmu lait aṭhsaṭhi majnāiā ॥1॥

नामु लैत अठसठि मजनाइआ ॥१॥

Repeating the Naam, one is cleansed at the sixty-eight sacred shrines. ||1||

ਤੀਰਥੁ ਹਮਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ॥

tīrthu hamrā hari kō nāmu ॥

तीरथु हमरा हरि को नामु ॥

My sacred shrine of pilgrimage is the Name of the Lord.

ਗੁਰਿ ਉਪਦੇਸਿਆ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

guri updēsiā tatu giānu ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

गुरि उपदेसिआ ततु गिआनु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

The Guru has instructed me in the true essence of spiritual wisdom. ||1||Pause||

ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੂਰਿ ਪਰਾਨਾ ॥

nāmu lait dukhu dūri parānā ॥

नामु लैत दुखु दूरि पराना ॥

Repeating the Naam, the mortal's pains are taken away.

ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਅਤਿ ਮੂੜ ਸੁਗਿਆਨਾ ॥

nāmu lait ati mūṛ sugiānā ॥

नामु लैत अति मूड़ सुगिआना ॥

Repeating the Naam, the most ignorant people become spiritual teachers.

ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਪਰਗਟਿ ਉਜੀਆਰਾ ॥

nāmu lait pargaṭi ujīārā ॥

नामु लैत परगटि उजीआरा ॥

Repeating the Naam, the Divine Light blazes forth.

ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਛੁਟੇ ਜੰਜਾਰਾ ॥੨॥

nāmu lait chhuṭē jañjārā ॥2॥

नामु लैत छुटे जंजारा ॥२॥

Repeating the Naam, one's bonds are broken. ||2||

ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਜਮੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥

nāmu lait jamu nēṛi na āvai ॥

नामु लैत जमु नेड़ि न आवै ॥

Repeating the Naam, the Messenger of Death does not draw near.

ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਦਰਗਹ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

nāmu lait dargah sukhu pāvai ॥

नामु लैत दरगह सुखु पावै ॥

Repeating the Naam, one finds peace in the Court of the Lord.

ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਹੈ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥

nāmu lait prabhu kahai sābāsi ॥

नामु लैत प्रभु कहै साबासि ॥

Repeating the Naam, God gives His Approval.

ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਸਾਚੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੩॥

nāmu hamārī sāchī rāsi ॥3॥

नामु हमारी साची रासि ॥३॥

The Naam is my true wealth. ||3||

ਗੁਰਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਕਹਿਓ ਇਹੁ ਸਾਰੁ ॥

guri updēsu kahiō ihu sāru ॥

गुरि उपदेसु कहिओ इहु सारु ॥

The Guru has instructed me in these sublime teachings.

ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਮਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥

hari kīrti man nāmu adhāru ॥

हरि कीरति मन नामु अधारु ॥

The Kirtan of the Lord's Praises and the Naam are the Support of the mind.

ਨਾਨਕ ਉਧਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਪੁਨਹਚਾਰ ॥

nānak udhrē nām punhachār ॥

नानक उधरे नाम पुनहचार ॥

Nanak is saved through the atonement of the Naam.

ਅਵਰਿ ਕਰਮ ਲੋਕਹ ਪਤੀਆਰ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੨੫॥

avri karam lōkah patīār ॥4॥12॥25॥

अवरि करम लोकह पतीआर ॥४॥१२॥२५॥

Other actions are just to please and appease the people. ||4||12||25||
