ਨਾਂਗੇ ਆਵਨੁ ਨਾਂਗੇ ਜਾਨਾ ॥

ਨਾਂਗੇ ਆਵਨੁ ਨਾਂਗੇ ਜਾਨਾ ॥

nāṅgē āvnu nāṅgē jānā ॥

नांगे आवनु नांगे जाना ॥

Naked we come, and naked we go.

ਕੋਇ ਨ ਰਹਿਹੈ ਰਾਜਾ ਰਾਨਾ ॥੧॥

kōi na rahihai rājā rānā ॥1॥

कोइ न रहिहै राजा राना ॥१॥

No one, not even the kings and queens, shall remain. ||1||

ਰਾਮੁ ਰਾਜਾ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਮੇਰੈ ॥

rāmu rājā nau nidhi mērai ॥

रामु राजा नउ निधि मेरै ॥

The Sovereign Lord is the nine treasures for me.

ਸੰਪੈ ਹੇਤੁ ਕਲਤੁ ਧਨੁ ਤੇਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

sampai hētu kaltu dhanu tērai ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

संपै हेतु कलतु धनु तेरै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

The possessions and the spouse to which the mortal is lovingly attached, are Your wealth, O Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਆਵਤ ਸੰਗ ਨ ਜਾਤ ਸੰਗਾਤੀ ॥

āvat saṅg na jāt saṅgātī ॥

आवत संग न जात संगाती ॥

They do not come with the mortal, and they do not go with him.

ਕਹਾ ਭਇਓ ਦਰਿ ਬਾਂਧੇ ਹਾਥੀ ॥੨॥

kahā bhaiō dari bāndhē hāthī ॥2॥

कहा भइओ दरि बांधे हाथी ॥२॥

What good does it do him, if he has elephants tied up at his doorway? ||2||

ਲੰਕਾ ਗਢੁ ਸੋਨੇ ਕਾ ਭਇਆ ॥

laṅkā gaḍhu sōnē kā bhaiā ॥

लंका गढु सोने का भइआ ॥

The fortress of Sri Lanka was made out of gold,

ਮੂਰਖੁ ਰਾਵਨੁ ਕਿਆ ਲੇ ਗਇਆ ॥੩॥

mūrkhu rāvnu kiā lē gaiā ॥3॥

मूरखु रावनु किआ ले गइआ ॥३॥

But what could the foolish Raawan take with him when he left? ||3||

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਕਿਛੁ ਗੁਨੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

kahi kabīr kichhu gunu bīchāri ॥

कहि कबीर किछु गुनु बीचारि ॥

Says Kabeer, think of doing some good deeds.

ਚਲੇ ਜੁਆਰੀ ਦੁਇ ਹਥ ਝਾਰਿ ॥੪॥੨॥

chalē juārī dui hath jhāri ॥4॥2॥

चले जुआरी दुइ हथ झारि ॥४॥२॥

In the end, the gambler shall depart empty-handed. ||4||2||
