ਮਨ ਕਹ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਅਫਾਰਾ ॥

Dayv-Gandhaaree, Fifth Mehl:

ਮਨ ਕਹ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਅਫਾਰਾ ॥

man kah ahṅkāri aphārā ॥

मन कह अहंकारि अफारा ॥

O mind, why are you so puffed up with egotism?

ਦੁਰਗੰਧ ਅਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਅਪਾਵਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਛਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

durgandh apvitr apāvan bhītri jō dīsai sō chhārā ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

दुरगंध अपवित्र अपावन भीतरि जो दीसै सो छारा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Whatever is seen in this foul, impure and filthy world, is only ashes. ||1||Pause||

ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਪਰਾਨੀ ਜੀਉ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਜਿਨਿ ਧਾਰਾ ॥

jini kīā tisu simri parānī jīu prān jini dhārā ॥

जिनि कीआ तिसु सिमरि परानी जीउ प्रान जिनि धारा ॥

Remember the One who created you, O mortal; He is the Support of your soul, and the breath of life.

ਤਿਸਹਿ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਅਵਰ ਲਪਟਾਵਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਮੁਗਧ ਗਵਾਰਾ ॥੧॥

tishi tiāgi avar lapṭāvhi mari janmahi mugadh gavārā ॥1॥

तिसहि तिआगि अवर लपटावहि मरि जनमहि मुगध गवारा ॥१॥

One who forsakes Him, and attaches himself to another, dies to be reborn; he is such an ignorant fool! ||1||

ਅੰਧ ਗੁੰਗ ਪਿੰਗੁਲ ਮਤਿ ਹੀਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰਾ ॥

andh guṅg piṅgul mati hīnā prabh rākhhu rākhnahārā ॥

अंध गुंग पिंगुल मति हीना प्रभ राखहु राखनहारा ॥

I am blind, mute, crippled and totally lacking in understanding; O God, Preserver of all, please preserve me!

ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨਹਾਰ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਕਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੰਤ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥੨॥੧੧॥

karan karāvnahār samrathā kiā nānak jant bichārā ॥2॥11॥

करन करावनहार समरथा किआ नानक जंत बिचारा ॥२॥११॥

The Creator, the Cause of causes is all-powerful; O Nanak, how helpless are His beings! ||2||11||
