ਮਨ ਕਾ ਸੂਤਕੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਹਵਾ ਸੂਤਕੁ ਕੂੜੁ ॥

man kā sūtku lōbhu hai jihvā sūtku kūṛu ॥

मन का सूतकु लोभु है जिहवा सूतकु कूड़ु ॥

The impurity of the mind is greed, and the impurity of the tongue is falsehood.

ਅਖੀ ਸੂਤਕੁ ਵੇਖਣਾ ਪਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਪਰ ਧਨ ਰੂਪੁ ॥

akhī sūtku vēkhṇā par tria par dhan rūpu ॥

अखी सूतकु वेखणा पर त्रिअ पर धन रूपु ॥

The impurity of the eyes is to gaze upon the beauty of another man's wife, and his wealth.

ਕੰਨੀ ਸੂਤਕੁ ਕੰਨਿ ਪੈ ਲਾਇਤਬਾਰੀ ਖਾਹਿ ॥

kannī sūtku kanni pai lāitbārī khāhi ॥

कंनी सूतकु कंनि पै लाइतबारी खाहि ॥

The impurity of the ears is to listen to the slander of others.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹੰਸਾ ਆਦਮੀ ਬਧੇ ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੨॥

nānak haṃsā ādmī badhē jam puri jāhi ॥2॥

नानक हंसा आदमी बधे जम पुरि जाहि ॥२॥

O Nanak, the mortal's soul goes, bound and gagged to the city of Death. ||2||
