ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਤਿਆਂ ਡਡਾਂ ਜਲ ਵਾਸੀ॥

ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਤਿਆਂ ਡਡਾਂ ਜਲ ਵਾਸੀ॥

milai ji tīrthi nātiāṃ ḍaḍāṃ jal vāsī॥

मिलै जि तीरथि नातिआं डडां जल वासी॥

If one could attain liberation by taking bath at pilgrimage centres then (we know that) the frogs always live in water.

ਵਾਲ ਵਧਾਇਆਂ ਪਾਈਐ ਬੜ ਜਟਾਂ ਪਲਾਸੀ॥

vāl vadhāiāṃ pāīai baṛ jaṭāṃ palāsī॥

वाल वधाइआं पाईऐ बड़ जटां पलासी॥

If growing long hair could make it available then the banyan has long roots hanging from it.

ਨੰਗੇ ਰਹਿਆਂ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਣਿ ਮਿਰਗ ਉਦਾਸੀ॥

naṅgē rahiāṃ jē milai vaṇi mirag udāsī॥

नंगे रहिआं जे मिलै वणि मिरग उदासी॥

If going naked gets it, all the deer in the forest can be called detached ones.

ਭਸਮ ਲਾਇ ਜੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਖਰੁ ਖੇਹ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ॥

bhasam lāi jē pāīai kharu khēh nivāsī॥

भसम लाइ जे पाईऐ खरु खेह निवासी॥

If it is attained by smearing ashes on body, the ass always rolls in dust.

ਜੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਚੁਪ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਪਸੂਆਂ ਜੜ ਹਾਸੀ॥

jē pāīai chup kītiāṃ pasūāṃ jaṛ hāsī॥

जे पाईऐ चुप कीतिआं पसूआं जड़ हासी॥

If muteness could bring it, the animals and inert objects are certainly speechless.

ਵਿਣੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲੈ ਖਲਾਸੀ ॥੧੪॥

viṇu gur mukti na hōvaī gur milai khalāsī ॥14॥

विणु गुर मुकति न होवई गुर मिलै खलासी ॥१४॥

No liberation is attained without Guru and bondages are shattered only after meeting the Guru.
