ਮੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਿਰਹੁ ਅਤਿ ਅਗਲਾ ਕਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਇ ॥

Sriraag, Fourth Mehl, First House:

ਮੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਿਰਹੁ ਅਤਿ ਅਗਲਾ ਕਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਇ ॥

mai mani tani birhu ati aglā kiu prītmu milai ghari āi ॥

मै मनि तनि बिरहु अति अगला किउ प्रीतमु मिलै घरि आइ ॥

Within my mind and body is the intense pain of separation; how can my Beloved come to meet me in my home?

ਜਾ ਦੇਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਦੇਖਿਐ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥

jā dēkhā prabhu āpaṇā prabhi dēkhiai dukhu jāi ॥

जा देखा प्रभु आपणा प्रभि देखिऐ दुखु जाइ ॥

When I see my God, seeing God Himself, my pain is taken away.

ਜਾਇ ਪੁਛਾ ਤਿਨ ਸਜਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੧॥

jāi puchhā tin sajaṇā prabhu kitu bidhi milai milāi ॥1॥

जाइ पुछा तिन सजणा प्रभु कितु बिधि मिलै मिलाइ ॥१॥

I go and ask my friends, ""How can I meet and merge with God?""||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਾ ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

mērē satigurā mai tujh binu avru na kōi ॥

मेरे सतिगुरा मै तुझ बिनु अवरु न कोइ ॥

O my True Guru, without You I have no other at all.

ਹਮ ਮੂਰਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੇਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ham mūrakh mugadh sarṇāgtī kari kirpā mēlē hari sōi ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

हम मूरख मुगध सरणागती करि किरपा मेले हरि सोइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

I am foolish and ignorant; I seek Your Sanctuary. Please be Merciful and unite me with the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥

satiguru dātā hari nām kā prabhu āpi milāvai sōi ॥

सतिगुरु दाता हरि नाम का प्रभु आपि मिलावै सोइ ॥

The True Guru is the Giver of the Name of the Lord. God Himself causes us to meet Him.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬੁਝਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

satiguri hari prabhu bujhiā gur jēvḍu avru na kōi ॥

सतिगुरि हरि प्रभु बुझिआ गुर जेवडु अवरु न कोइ ॥

The True Guru understands the Lord God. There is no other as Great as the Guru.

ਹਉ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਢਹਿ ਪਵਾ ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਮੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥

hau gur sarṇāī ḍhahi pavā kari daiā mēlē prabhu sōi ॥2॥

हउ गुर सरणाई ढहि पवा करि दइआ मेले प्रभु सोइ ॥२॥

I have come and collapsed in the Guru's Sanctuary. In His Kindness, He has united me with God. ||2||

ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਉਪਾਵ ਥਕੇ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥

manhaṭhi kinai na pāiā kari upāv thakē sabhu kōi ॥

मनहठि किनै न पाइआ करि उपाव थके सभु कोइ ॥

No one has found Him by stubborn-mindedness. All have grown weary of the effort.

ਸਹਸ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਕਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਮਨਿ ਕੋਰੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

sahas siāṇap kari rahē mani kōrai raṅgu na hōi ॥

सहस सिआणप करि रहे मनि कोरै रंगु न होइ ॥

Thousands of clever mental tricks have been tried, but still, the raw and undisciplined mind does not absorb the Color of the Lord's Love.

ਕੂੜਿ ਕਪਟਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਜੋ ਬੀਜੈ ਖਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥

kūṛi kapṭi kinai na pāiō jō bījai khāvai sōi ॥3॥

कूड़ि कपटि किनै न पाइओ जो बीजै खावै सोइ ॥३॥

By falsehood and deception, none have found Him. Whatever you plant, you shall eat. ||3||

ਸਭਨਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਭ ਜੀਅ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਸਿ ॥

sabhanā tērī ās prabhu sabh jīa tērē tūṃ rāsi ॥

सभना तेरी आस प्रभु सभ जीअ तेरे तूं रासि ॥

O God, You are the Hope of all. All beings are Yours; You are the Wealth of all.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਧਹੁ ਖਾਲੀ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਦਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥

prabh tudhhu khālī kō nahī dari gurmukhā nō sābāsi ॥

प्रभ तुधहु खाली को नही दरि गुरमुखा नो साबासि ॥

O God, none return from You empty-handed; at Your Door, the Gurmukhs are praised and acclaimed.

ਬਿਖੁ ਭਉਜਲ ਡੁਬਦੇ ਕਢਿ ਲੈ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੧॥੬੫॥

bikhu bhaujal ḍubdē kaḍhi lai jan nānak kī ardāsi ॥4॥1॥65॥

बिखु भउजल डुबदे कढि लै जन नानक की अरदासि ॥४॥१॥६५॥

In the terrifying world-ocean of poison, people are drowning-please lift them up and save them! This is servant Nanak's humble prayer. ||4||1||65||
