ਮਾਈ ਰੀ ਆਨ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਂਹਿ ॥

सारग महला ५ ॥

Saarang, Fifth Mehl:

ਮਾਈ ਰੀ ਆਨ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਂਹਿ ॥

māī rī ān simri mari jāṃhi ॥

माई री आन सिमरि मरि जांहि ॥

O mother, by meditating in remembrance on some other, the mortal dies.

ਤਿਆਗਿ ਗੋਬਿਦੁ ਜੀਅਨ ਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਪਟਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

tiāgi gōbidu jīan kō dātā māiā sa??gi lapṭāhi ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

तिआगि गोबिदु जीअन को दाता माइआ संगि लपटाहि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Forsaking the Lord of the Universe, the Giver of souls, the mortal is engrossed and entangled in Maya. ||1||Pause||

ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਚਲਹਿ ਅਨ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਨਰਕ ਘੋਰ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥

nāmu bisāri chalhi an mārgi narak ghōr mahi pāhi ॥

नामु बिसारि चलहि अन मारगि नरक घोर महि पाहि ॥

Forgetting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, he walks on some other path, and falls into the most horrible hell.

ਅਨਿਕ ਸਜਾਂਈ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਗਰਭੈ ਗਰਭਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥

anik sajāṃī gaṇat na āvai garbhai garbhi bhramāhi ॥1॥

अनिक सजांई गणत न आवै गरभै गरभि भ्रमाहि ॥१॥

He suffers uncounted punishments, and wanders from womb to womb in reincarnation. ||1||

ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤੇ ਸੇ ਪਤਿਵੰਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥

sē dhanvantē sē pativntē hari kī sarṇi samāhi ॥

से धनवंते से पतिवंते हरि की सरणि समाहि ॥

They alone are wealthy, and they alone are honorable, who are absorbed in the Sanctuary of the Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਗੁ ਜੀਤਿਓ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਂਹਿ ॥੨॥੮੮॥੧੧੧॥

gur prasādi nānak jagu jītiō bahuri na āvahi jāṃhi ॥2॥88॥111॥

गुर प्रसादि नानक जगु जीतिओ बहुरि न आवहि जांहि ॥२॥८८॥१११॥

By Guru's Grace, O Nanak, they conquer the world; they do not come and go in reincarnation ever again. ||2||88||111||
