ਮਾਈ ਮਾਇਆ ਛਲੁ ॥

Todee, Fifth Mehl:

ਮਾਈ ਮਾਇਆ ਛਲੁ ॥

māī māiā chhalu ॥

माई माइआ छलु ॥

O my mother, Maya is so misleading and deceptive.

ਤ੍ਰਿਣ ਕੀ ਅਗਨਿ ਮੇਘ ਕੀ ਛਾਇਆ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਭਜਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਹੜ ਕਾ ਜਲੁ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

triṇ kī agni mēgh kī chhāiā gōbid bhajan binu haṛ kā jalu ॥ rahāu ॥

त्रिण की अगनि मेघ की छाइआ गोबिद भजन बिनु हड़ का जलु ॥ रहाउ ॥

Without meditating on the Lord of the Universe, it is like straw on fire, or the shadow of a cloud, or the running of the flood-waters. ||Pause||

ਛੋਡਿ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਬਹੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਦੁਇ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਸਾਧ ਮਗਿ ਚਲੁ ॥

chhōḍi siānap bahu chaturāī dui kar jōṛi sādh magi chalu ॥

छोडि सिआनप बहु चतुराई दुइ कर जोड़ि साध मगि चलु ॥

Renounce your cleverness and all your mental tricks; with your palms pressed together, walk on the Path of the Holy Saints.

ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਦੇਹ ਕਾ ਇਹੁ ਊਤਮ ਫਲੁ ॥੧॥

simri suāmī antrajāmī mānukh dēh kā ihu ūtam phalu ॥1॥

सिमरि सुआमी अंतरजामी मानुख देह का इहु ऊतम फलु ॥१॥

Remember the Lord, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts; this is the most sublime reward of this human incarnation. ||1||

ਬੇਦ ਬਖਿਆਨ ਕਰਤ ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨ ਭਾਗਹੀਨ ਸਮਝਤ ਨਹੀ ਖਲੁ ॥

bēd bakhiān karat sādhū jan bhāghīn samjhat nahī khalu ॥

बेद बखिआन करत साधू जन भागहीन समझत नही खलु ॥

The Holy Saints preach the teachings of the Vedas, but the unfortunate fools do not understand them.

ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਰਾਚੇ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਦਹਨ ਭਏ ਮਲ ॥੨॥੭॥੨੬॥

prēm bhagti rāchē jan nānak hari simrani dahan bhaē mal ॥2॥7॥26॥

प्रेम भगति राचे जन नानक हरि सिमरनि दहन भए मल ॥२॥७॥२६॥

Servant Nanak is absorbed in loving devotional worship; meditating in remembrance on the Lord, one's dirt is burnt away. ||2||7||26||
