ਕਿਸੁ ਹਉ ਸੇਵੀ ਕਿਆ ਜਪੁ ਕਰੀ ਸਤਗੁਰ ਪੂਛਉ ਜਾਇ ॥

Sriraag, Third Mehl:

ਕਿਸੁ ਹਉ ਸੇਵੀ ਕਿਆ ਜਪੁ ਕਰੀ ਸਤਗੁਰ ਪੂਛਉ ਜਾਇ ॥

kisu hau sēvī kiā japu karī satgur pūchhhau jāi ॥

किसु हउ सेवी किआ जपु करी सतगुर पूछउ जाइ ॥

Whom shall I serve? What shall I chant? I will go and ask the Guru.

ਸਤਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਲਈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥

satgur kā bhāṇā manni laī vichhu āpu gavāi ॥

सतगुर का भाणा मंनि लई विचहु आपु गवाइ ॥

I will accept the Will of the True Guru, and eradicate selfishness from within.

ਏਹਾ ਸੇਵਾ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥

ēhā sēvā chākrī nāmu vasai mani āi ॥

एहा सेवा चाकरी नामु वसै मनि आइ ॥

By this work and service, the Naam shall come to dwell within my mind.

ਨਾਮੈ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਇ ॥੧॥

nāmai hī tē sukhu pāīai sachai sabdi suhāi ॥1॥

नामै ही ते सुखु पाईऐ सचै सबदि सुहाइ ॥१॥

Through the Naam, peace is obtained; I am adorned and embellished by the True Word of the Shabad. ||1||

ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗੁ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਿ ॥

man mērē andinu jāgu hari chēti ॥

मन मेरे अनदिनु जागु हरि चेति ॥

O my mind, remain awake and aware night and day, and think of the Lord.

ਆਪਣੀ ਖੇਤੀ ਰਖਿ ਲੈ ਕੂੰਜ ਪੜੈਗੀ ਖੇਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

āpṇī khētī rakhi lai kūñj paṛaigī khēti ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

आपणी खेती रखि लै कूंज पड़ैगी खेति ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Protect your crops, or else the birds shall descend on your farm. ||1||Pause||

ਮਨ ਕੀਆ ਇਛਾ ਪੂਰੀਆ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥

man kīā ichhā pūrīā sabdi rahiā bharpūri ॥

मन कीआ इछा पूरीआ सबदि रहिआ भरपूरि ॥

The desires of the mind are fulfilled, when one is filled to overflowing with the Shabad.

ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਦਾ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥

bhai bhāi bhagti karahi dinu rātī hari jīu vēkhai sadā hadūri ॥

भै भाइ भगति करहि दिनु राती हरि जीउ वेखै सदा हदूरि ॥

One who fears, loves, and is devoted to the Dear Lord day and night, sees Him always close at hand.

ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਗਇਆ ਸਰੀਰਹੁ ਦੂਰਿ ॥

sachai sabdi sadā manu rātā bhramu gaiā sarīrahu dūri ॥

सचै सबदि सदा मनु राता भ्रमु गइआ सरीरहु दूरि ॥

Doubt runs far away from the bodies of those, whose minds remain forever attuned to the True Word of the Shabad.

ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਾਚਾ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰੁ ॥੨॥

nirmalu sāhibu pāiā sāchā guṇī gahīru ॥2॥

निरमलु साहिबु पाइआ साचा गुणी गहीरु ॥२॥

The Immaculate Lord and Master is found. He is True; He is the Ocean of Excellence. ||2||

ਜੋ ਜਾਗੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਸੂਤੇ ਗਏ ਮੁਹਾਇ ॥

jō jāgē sē ubrē sūtē gaē muhāi ॥

जो जागे से उबरे सूते गए मुहाइ ॥

Those who remain awake and aware are saved, while those who sleep are plundered.

ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਿਓ ਸੁਪਨਾ ਗਇਆ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥

sachā sabdu na pachhāṇiō supanā gaiā vihāi ॥

सचा सबदु न पछाणिओ सुपना गइआ विहाइ ॥

They do not recognize the True Word of the Shabad, and like a dream, their lives fade away.

ਸੁੰੇ ਘਰ ਕਾ ਪਾਹੁਣਾ ਜਿਉ ਆਇਆ ਤਿਉ ਜਾਇ ॥

suē ghar kā pāhuṇā jiu āiā tiu jāi ॥

सुंे घर का पाहुणा जिउ आइआ तिउ जाइ ॥

Like guests in a deserted house, they leave just exactly as they have come.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਜਨਮੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਗਇਆ ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਦੇਸੀ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥

manmukh janmu birthā gaiā kiā muhu dēsī jāi ॥3॥

मनमुख जनमु बिरथा गइआ किआ मुहु देसी जाइ ॥३॥

The life of the self-willed manmukh passes uselessly. What face will he show when he passes beyond? ||3||

ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

sabh kichhu āpē āpi hai haumai vichi kahnu na jāi ॥

सभ किछु आपे आपि है हउमै विचि कहनु न जाइ ॥

God Himself is everything; those who are in their ego cannot even speak of this.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਦੁਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥

gur kai sabdi pachhāṇīai dukhu haumai vichhu gavāi ॥

गुर कै सबदि पछाणीऐ दुखु हउमै विचहु गवाइ ॥

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He is realized, and the pain of egotism is eradicated from within.

ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥

satguru sēvni āpaṇā hau tin kai lāgau pāi ॥

सतगुरु सेवनि आपणा हउ तिन कै लागउ पाइ ॥

I fall at the feet of those who serve their True Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਚਿਆਰ ਹਹਿ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥੪॥੨੧॥੫੪॥

nānak dari sachai sachiār hahi hau tin balihārai jāu ॥4॥21॥54॥

नानक दरि सचै सचिआर हहि हउ तिन बलिहारै जाउ ॥४॥२१॥५४॥

O Nanak, I am a sacrifice to those who are found to be true in the True Court. ||4||21||54||
