ਕਿਆ ਸੋਵਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਗਾਫਲ ਗਹਿਲਿਆ ॥

आसा महला ५ ॥

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਕਿਆ ਸੋਵਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਗਾਫਲ ਗਹਿਲਿਆ ॥

kiā sōvahi nāmu visāri gāphal gahiliā ॥

किआ सोवहि नामु विसारि गाफल गहिलिआ ॥

Why are you sleeping, and forgetting the Name, O careless and foolish mortal?

ਕਿਤੀ ਇਤੁ ਦਰੀਆਇ ਵੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਵਹਦਿਆ ॥੧॥

kitṃī itu darīāi vann‍ ivhadiā ॥1॥

कितंØी इतु दरीआइ वंन्‍ िवहदिआ ॥१॥

So many have been washed away and carried off by this river of life. ||1||

ਬੋਹਿਥੜਾ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਮਨ ਚੜਿ ਲੰਘੀਐ ॥

bōhithṛā hari charaṇ man chaṛi laṅghīai ॥

बोहिथड़ा हरि चरण मन चड़ि लंघीऐ ॥

O mortal, get aboard the boat of the Lord's Lotus Feet, and cross over.

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

āṭh pahar guṇ gāi sādhū saṅgīai ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

आठ पहर गुण गाइ साधू संगीऐ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Twenty-four hours a day, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1||Pause||

ਭੋਗਹਿ ਭੋਗ ਅਨੇਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸੁੰਆਿ ॥

bhōghi bhōg anēk viṇu nāvai suṃi ॥

भोगहि भोग अनेक विणु नावै सुंआि ॥

You may enjoy various pleasures, but they are useless without the Name.

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਰੁੰਨਿਆ ॥੨॥

hari kī bhagti binā mari mari runniā ॥2॥

हरि की भगति बिना मरि मरि रुंनिआ ॥२॥

Without devotion to the Lord, you shall die in sorrow, again and again. ||2||

ਕਪੜ ਭੋਗ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਤਨਿ ਮਰਦਨ ਮਾਲਣਾ ॥

kapaṛ bhōg sugandh tani mardan mālṇā ॥

कपड़ भोग सुगंध तनि मरदन मालणा ॥

You may dress and eat and apply scented oils to your body,

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤਨੁ ਛਾਰੁ ਸਰਪਰ ਚਾਲਣਾ ॥੩॥

binu simran tanu chhāru sarpar chālṇā ॥3॥

बिनु सिमरन तनु छारु सरपर चालणा ॥३॥

But without the meditative remembrance of the Lord, your body shall surely turn to dust, and you shall have to depart. ||3||

ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਪੇਖਿਆ ॥

mahā bikhmu saṃsāru virlai pēkhiā ॥

महा बिखमु संसारु विरलै पेखिआ ॥

How very treacherous is this world-ocean; how very few realize this!

ਛੂਟਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਲੇਖਿਆ ॥੪॥੮॥੧੧੦॥

chhūṭnu hari kī sarṇi lēkhu nānak lēkhiā ॥4॥8॥110॥

छूटनु हरि की सरणि लेखु नानक लेखिआ ॥४॥८॥११०॥

Salvation rests in the Lord's Sanctuary; O Nanak, this is your pre-ordained destiny. ||4||8||110||
