ਕਿਆ ਪੜੀਐ ਕਿਆ ਗੁਨੀਐ ॥

ਕਿਆ ਪੜੀਐ ਕਿਆ ਗੁਨੀਐ ॥

kiā paṛīai kiā gunīai ॥

किआ पड़ीऐ किआ गुनीऐ ॥

What use is it to read, and what use is it to study?

ਕਿਆ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨਾਂ ਸੁਨੀਐ ॥

kiā bēd purānāṃ sunīai ॥

किआ बेद पुरानां सुनीऐ ॥

What use is it to listen to the Vedas and the Puraanas?

ਪੜੇ ਸੁਨੇ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਈ ॥

paṛē sunē kiā hōī ॥

पड़े सुने किआ होई ॥

What use is reading and listening,

ਜਉ ਸਹਜ ਨ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਸੋਈ ॥੧॥

jau sahaj na miliō sōī ॥1॥

जउ सहज न मिलिओ सोई ॥१॥

If celestial peace is not attained? ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਪਸਿ ਗਵਾਰਾ ॥

hari kā nāmu na japsi gavārā ॥

हरि का नामु न जपसि गवारा ॥

The fool does not chant the Name of the Lord.

ਕਿਆ ਸੋਚਹਿ ਬਾਰੰ ਬਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

kiā sōchhi bāraṃ bārā ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

किआ सोचहि बारं बारा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

So what does he think of, over and over again? ||1||Pause||

ਅੰਧਿਆਰੇ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਚਹੀਐ ॥

andhiārē dīpku chahīai ॥

अंधिआरे दीपकु चहीऐ ॥

In the darkness, we need a lamp

ਇਕ ਬਸਤੁ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਲਹੀਐ ॥

ik bastu agōchar lahīai ॥

इक बसतु अगोचर लहीऐ ॥

To find the incomprehensible thing.

ਬਸਤੁ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਪਾਈ ॥

bastu agōchar pāī ॥

बसतु अगोचर पाई ॥

I have found this incomprehensible thing;

ਘਟਿ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੨॥

ghaṭi dīpku rahiā samāī ॥2॥

घटि दीपकु रहिआ समाई ॥२॥

My mind is illuminated and enlightened. ||2||

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਅਬ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥

kahi kabīr ab jāniā ॥

कहि कबीर अब जानिआ ॥

Says Kabeer, now I know Him;

ਜਬ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਤਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥

jab jāniā tau manu māniā ॥

जब जानिआ तउ मनु मानिआ ॥

Since I know Him, my mind is pleased and appeased.

ਮਨ ਮਾਨੇ ਲੋਗੁ ਨ ਪਤੀਜੈ ॥

man mānē lōgu na patījai ॥

मन माने लोगु न पतीजै ॥

My mind is pleased and appeased, and yet, people do not believe it.

ਨ ਪਤੀਜੈ ਤਉ ਕਿਆ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੩॥੭॥

na patījai tau kiā kījai ॥3॥7॥

न पतीजै तउ किआ कीजै ॥३॥७॥

They do not believe it, so what can I do? ||3||7||
