ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੀ ਮਲੁ ਧੋਵੈ ਪਰਾਈ ਆਪਣਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

आसा महला ५ ॥

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੀ ਮਲੁ ਧੋਵੈ ਪਰਾਈ ਆਪਣਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

janam janam kī malu dhōvai parāī āpaṇā kītā pāvai ॥

जनम जनम की मलु धोवै पराई आपणा कीता पावै ॥

He washes off the filth of other peoples' incarnations, but he obtains the rewards of his own actions.

ਈਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਢੋਈ ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਜਾਇ ਪਚਾਵੈ ॥੧॥

īhā sukhu nahī dargah ḍhōī jam puri jāi pachāvai ॥1॥

ईहा सुखु नही दरगह ढोई जम पुरि जाइ पचावै ॥१॥

He has no peace in this world, and he has no place in the Court of the Lord. In the City of Death, he is tortured. ||1||

ਨਿੰਦਕਿ ਅਹਿਲਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥

nindki ahilā janmu gavāiā ॥

निंदकि अहिला जनमु गवाइआ ॥

The slanderer loses his life in vain.

ਪਹੁਚਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਕਾਹੂ ਬਾਤੈ ਆਗੈ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

pahuchi na sākai kāhū bātai āgai ṭhaur na pāiā ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

पहुचि न साकै काहू बातै आगै ठउर न पाइआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

He cannot succeed in anything, and in the world hereafter, he finds no place at all. ||1||Pause||

ਕਿਰਤੁ ਪਇਆ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਬਪੁਰੇ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਓਹੁ ਕਰੈ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥

kirtu paiā nindak bapurē kā kiā ōhu karai bichārā ॥

किरतु पइआ निंदक बपुरे का किआ ओहु करै बिचारा ॥

Such is the fate of the wretched slanderer - what can the poor creature do?

ਤਹਾ ਬਿਗੂਤਾ ਜਹ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਰਾਖੈ ਓਹੁ ਕਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਕਰੇ ਪੁਕਾਰਾ ॥੨॥

tahā bigūtā jah kōi na rākhai ōhu kisu pahi karē pukārā ॥2॥

तहा बिगूता जह कोइ न राखै ओहु किसु पहि करे पुकारा ॥२॥

He is ruined there, where no one can protect him; with whom should he lodge his complaint? ||2||

ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਕਤਹੂੰ ਨਾਹੀ ਖਸਮੈ ਏਵੈ ਭਾਣਾ ॥

nindak kī gati kathūṃ nāhī khasmai ēvai bhāṇā ॥

निंदक की गति कतहूं नाही खसमै एवै भाणा ॥

The slanderer shall never attain emancipation; this is the Will of the Lord and Master.

ਜੋ ਜੋ ਨਿੰਦ ਕਰੇ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਤਿਉ ਸੰਤਨ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਨਾ ॥੩॥

jō jō nind karē santan kī tiu santan sukhu mānā ॥3॥

जो जो निंद करे संतन की तिउ संतन सुखु माना ॥३॥

The more the Saints are slandered, the more they dwell in peace. ||3||

ਸੰਤਾ ਟੇਕ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੂੰ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਾ ਸਹਾਈ ॥

santā ṭēk tumārī suāmī tūṃ santan kā sahāī ॥

संता टेक तुमारी सुआमी तूं संतन का सहाई ॥

The Saints have Your Support, O Lord and Master; You are the Saints' Help and Support.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਦੀਏ ਰੁੜਾਈ ॥੪॥੨॥੪੧॥

kahu nānak sant hari rākhē nindak dīē ruṛāī ॥4॥2॥41॥

कहु नानक संत हरि राखे निंदक दीए रुड़ाई ॥४॥२॥४१॥

Says Nanak, the Saints are saved by the Lord; the slanderers are drowned in the deep. ||4||2||41||
