ਜੁਗਗਰਦੀ ਜਬ ਹੋਵਹੇ ਉਲਟੇ ਜੁਗ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਇ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ॥

ਜੁਗਗਰਦੀ ਜਬ ਹੋਵਹੇ ਉਲਟੇ ਜੁਗ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਇ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ॥

juggardī jab hōvahē ulṭē jug kiā hōi vartārā॥

जुगगरदी जब होवहे उलटे जुग किआ होइ वरतारा॥

During the down fall of an age, people setting aside the duties of the age bahave contrary to their nature.

ਉਠੇ ਗਿਲਾਨ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਵਰਤੈ ਪਾਪ ਭ੍ਰਸ਼ਟ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ॥

uṭhē gilān jagat vic vartai pāp bhrashaṭ saṃsārā॥

उठे गिलान जगत विच वरतै पाप भ्रशट संसारा॥

The world gets engrossed in remorseful activities and sin and corruption prevail.

ਵਰਨਾ ਵਰਨ ਨ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਖਹਿ ਖਹਿ ਜਲਨ ਬਾਂਸ ਅੰਗਯਾਰਾ॥

varnā varan na bhāvnī khahi khahi jalan bāṃs aṅgyārā॥

वरना वरन न भावनी खहि खहि जलन बांस अंगयारा॥

Different sections(castes) of society develop hatred for one another and finish themselves through squabbles as the bamboos, due to their mutual friction, producing fire burn themselves as well as others.

ਨਿੰਦਾ ਚਾਲੈ ਵੇਦ ਕੀ ਸਮਝਨ ਨਹਿ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ॥

nindā chālai vēd kī samjhan nahi agiān gubārā॥

निंदा चालै वेद की समझन नहि अगिआन गुबारा॥

Condemnation of the knowledge starts and in the darkness of ignorance nothing remains visible.

ਬੇਦ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਗੁਰ ਹੱਟ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਲਗ ਭਵਜਲ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਾ॥

bēd granth gur haṭṭ hai jis lag bhavjal pār utārā॥

बेद ग्रंथ गुर हॱट है जिस लग भवजल पार उतारा॥

From that knowledge of the Vedas which gets man across the world ocean even the knowledgeable people get away.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝ ਨ ਬੁਝੀਐ ਜਿਚੱਰ ਧਰੇ ਨ ਗੁਰ ਅਵਤਾਰਾ॥

satigur bājh na bujhīai jicharr dharē na gur avtārā॥

सतिगुर बाझ न बुझीऐ जिचॱर धरे न गुर अवतारा॥

So long God does not descend on earth in the form of true Guru, no mystery can be understood.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਇਕ ਹੈ ਸੱਚਾ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਜਗਤ ਵਣਜਾਰਾ॥

gur parmēshar ik hai sacchā shāh jagat vaṇjārā॥

गुर परमेशर इक है सॱचा शाह जगत वणजारा॥

The Guru and God are one; He is the true master and the whole world craves for Him.

ਚੜੇ ਸੂਰ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਇ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ ॥੧੭॥

chaṛē sūr miṭ jāi andhārā ॥17॥

चड़े सूर मिट जाइ अंधारा ॥१७॥

He rises like sun and the darkness is dispelled.
