ਜਉ ਮੈ ਕੀਓ ਸਗਲ ਸੀਗਾਰਾ ॥

आसा महला ५ ॥

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਜਉ ਮੈ ਕੀਓ ਸਗਲ ਸੀਗਾਰਾ ॥

jau mai kīō sagal sīgārā ॥

जउ मै कीओ सगल सीगारा ॥

Even though I totally decorated myself,

ਤਉ ਭੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਨ ਪਤੀਆਰਾ ॥

tau bhī mērā manu na patīārā ॥

तउ भी मेरा मनु न पतीआरा ॥

Still, my mind was not satisfied.

ਅਨਿਕ ਸੁਗੰਧਤ ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਵਉ ॥

anik sugndhat tan mahi lāvau ॥

अनिक सुगंधत तन महि लावउ ॥

I applied various scented oils to my body,

ਓਹੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਸਮਾਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵਉ ॥

ōhu sukhu tilu samāni nahī pāvau ॥

ओहु सुखु तिलु समानि नही पावउ ॥

And yet, I did not obtain even a tiny bit of pleasure from this.

ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਚਿਤਵਉ ਐਸੀ ਆਸਾਈ ॥

man mahi chitvau aisī āsāī ॥

मन महि चितवउ ऐसी आसाई ॥

Within my mind, I hold such a desire,

ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਦੇਖਤ ਜੀਵਉ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥੧॥

pria dēkhat jīvau mērī māī ॥1॥

प्रिअ देखत जीवउ मेरी माई ॥१॥

That I may live only to behold my Beloved, O my mother. ||1||

ਮਾਈ ਕਹਾ ਕਰਉ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨ ਧੀਰੈ ॥

māī kahā karau ihu manu na dhīrai ॥

माई कहा करउ इहु मनु न धीरै ॥

O mother, what should I do? This mind cannot rest.

ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਹਿਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

pria prītam bairāgu hirai ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

प्रिअ प्रीतम बैरागु हिरै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

It is bewitched by the tender love of my Beloved. ||1||Pause||

ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਬਿਭੂਖਨ ਸੁਖ ਬਹੁਤ ਬਿਸੇਖੈ ॥

basatr bibhūkhan sukh bahut bisēkhai ॥

बसत्र बिभूखन सुख बहुत बिसेखै ॥

Garments, ornaments, and such exquisite pleasures

ਓਇ ਭੀ ਜਾਨਉ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਲੇਖੈ ॥

ōi bhī jānau kitai na lēkhai ॥

ओइ भी जानउ कितै न लेखै ॥

I look upon these as of no account.

ਪਤਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਅਰੁ ਮਾਨੁ ਮਹਤੁ ॥

pati sōbhā aru mānu mahtu ॥

पति सोभा अरु मानु महतु ॥

Likewise, honor, fame, dignity and greatness,

ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ਸਗਲ ਜਗ???ੁ ॥

āgiākārī sagal jagtu ॥

आगिआकारी सगल जगतु ॥

Obedience by the whole world,

ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਐਸਾ ਹੈ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਲਾਲ ॥

grihu aisā hai sundar lāl ॥

ग्रिहु ऐसा है सुंदर लाल ॥

And a household as beautiful as a jewel.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵਾ ਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੨॥

prabh bhāvā tā sadā nihāl ॥2॥

प्रभ भावा ता सदा निहाल ॥२॥

If I am pleasing to God's Will, then I shall be blessed, and forever in bliss. ||2||

ਬਿੰਜਨ ਭੋਜਨ ਅਨਿਕ ਪਰਕਾਰ ॥

biñjan bhōjan anik parkār ॥

बिंजन भोजन अनिक परकार ॥

With foods and delicacies of so many different kinds,

ਰੰਗ ਤਮਾਸੇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ॥

raṅg tamāsē bahutu bisathār ॥

रंग तमासे बहुतु बिसथार ॥

And such abundant pleasures and entertainments,

ਰਾਜ ਮਿਲਖ ਅਰੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਸਿ ॥

rāj milakh aru bahutu phurmāisi ॥

राज मिलख अरु बहुतु फुरमाइसि ॥

Power and property and absolute command

ਮਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਨਾ ਜਾਇਸਿ ॥

manu nahī dhrāpai trisnā nā jāisi ॥

मनु नही ध्रापै त्रिसना ना जाइसि ॥

With these, the mind is not satisfied, and its thirst is not quenched.

ਬਿਨੁ ਮਿਲਬੇ ਇਹੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਨ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ॥

binu milbē ihu dinu na bihāvai ॥

बिनु मिलबे इहु दिनु न बिहावै ॥

Without meeting Him, this day does not pass.

ਮਿਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਾ ਸਭ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥

milai prabhū tā sabh sukh pāvai ॥3॥

मिलै प्रभू ता सभ सुख पावै ॥३॥

Meeting God, I find peace. ||3||

ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਸੁਨੀ ਇਹ ਸੋਇ ॥

khōjat khōjat sunī ih sōi ॥

खोजत खोजत सुनी इह सोइ ॥

By searching and seeking, I have heard this news,

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਤਰਿਓ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

sādhsaṅgti binu tariō na kōi ॥

साधसंगति बिनु तरिओ न कोइ ॥

That without the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, no one swims across.

ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੁ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

jisu masatki bhāgu tini satiguru pāiā ॥

जिसु मसतकि भागु तिनि सतिगुरु पाइआ ॥

One who has this good destiny written upon his forehead, finds the True Guru.

ਪੂਰੀ ਆਸਾ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਇਆ ॥

pūrī āsā manu triptāiā ॥

पूरी आसा मनु त्रिपताइआ ॥

His hopes are fulfilled, and his mind is satisfied.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਤਾ ਚੂਕੀ ਡੰਝਾ ॥

prabh miliā tā chūkī ḍañjhā ॥

प्रभ मिलिआ ता चूकी डंझा ॥

When one meets God, then his thirst is quenched.

ਨਾਨਕ ਲਧਾ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਮੰਝਾ ॥੪॥੧੧॥

nānak ladhā man tan mañjhā ॥4॥11॥

नानक लधा मन तन मंझा ॥४॥११॥

Nanak has found the Lord, within his mind and body. ||4||11||
