ਜਿਹਵਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਹੀ ਅਘਾਇ ॥

सूही महला ४ ॥

Soohee, Fourth Mehl:

ਜਿਹਵਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਹੀ ਅਘਾਇ ॥

jihvā hari rasi rahī aghāi ॥

जिहवा हरि रसि रही अघाइ ॥

My tongue remains satisfied with the subtle essence of the Lord.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪੀਵੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥

gurmukhi pīvai sahji samāi ॥1॥

गुरमुखि पीवै सहजि समाइ ॥१॥

The Gurmukh drinks it in, and merges in celestial peace. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਜਨ ਚਾਖਹੁ ਜੇ ਭਾਈ ॥

hari rasu jan chākhhu jē bhāī ॥

हरि रसु जन चाखहु जे भाई ॥

If you taste the subtle essence of the Lord, O humble Siblings of Destiny,

ਤਉ ਕਤ ਅਨਤ ਸਾਦਿ ਲੋਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

tau kat anat sādi lōbhāī ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

तउ कत अनत सादि लोभाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Then how can you be enticed by other flavors? ||1||Pause||

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਸੁ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥

gurmati rasu rākhhu ur dhāri ॥

गुरमति रसु राखहु उर धारि ॥

Under Guru's Instructions, keep this subtle essence enshrined in your heart.

ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੨॥

hari rasi rātē raṅgi murāri ॥2॥

हरि रसि राते रंगि मुरारि ॥२॥

Those who are imbued with the subtle essence of the Lord, are immersed in celestial bliss. ||2||

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

manmukhi hari rasu chākhiā na jāi ॥

मनमुखि हरि रसु चाखिआ न जाइ ॥

The self-willed manmukh cannot even taste the subtle essence of the Lord.

ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰੈ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੩॥

haumai karai bahutī milai sajāi ॥3॥

हउमै करै बहुती मिलै सजाइ ॥३॥

He acts out in ego, and suffers terrible punishment. ||3||

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

nadri karē tā hari rasu pāvai ॥

नदरि करे ता हरि रसु पावै ॥

But if he is blessed with the Lord's Kind Mercy, then he obtains the subtle essence of the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੪॥੩॥੭॥

nānak hari rasi hari guṇ gāvai ॥4॥3॥7॥

नानक हरि रसि हरि गुण गावै ॥४॥३॥७॥

O Nanak, absorbed in this subtle essence of the Lord, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||3||7||
