Maaroo, Fifth Mehl:

ਜੀਵਨਾ ਸਫਲ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੁਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਸਦ ਜੀਵਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

jīvnā saphal jīvan suni hari japi japi sad jīvnā ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

जीवना सफल जीवन सुनि हरि जपि जपि सद जीवना ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Fruitful is the life, the life of one who hears about the Lord, and chants and meditates on Him; he lives forever. ||1||Pause||

ਪੀਵਨਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਮਨੁ ਆਘਾਵੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵਨਾ ॥੧॥

pīvnā jitu manu āghāvai nāmu ammrit rasu pīvnā ॥1॥

पीवना जितु मनु आघावै नामु अंम्रित रसु पीवना ॥१॥

The real drink is that which satisfies the mind; this drink is the sublime essence of the Ambrosial Naam. ||1||

ਖਾਵਨਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਭੂਖ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਸੰਤੋਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੀਵਨਾ ॥੨॥

khāvnā jitu bhūkh na lāgai santōkhi sadā triptīvnā ॥2॥

खावना जितु भूख न लागै संतोखि सदा त्रिपतीवना ॥२॥

The real food is that which will never leave you hungry again; it will leave you contented and satisfied forever. ||2||

ਪੈਨਣਾ ਰਖੁ ਪਤਿ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਫਿਰਿ ਨਾਗੇ ਨਹੀ ਥੀਵਨਾ ॥੩॥

painṇā rakhu pati parmēsur phiri nāgē nahī thīvnā ॥3॥

पैनणा रखु पति परमेसुर फिरि नागे नही थीवना ॥३॥

The real clothes are those which protect your honor before the Transcendent Lord, and do not leave you naked ever again. ||3||

ਭੋਗਨਾ ਮਨ ਮਧੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਲੀਵਨਾ ॥੪॥

bhōgnā man madhē hari rasu santsaṅgti mahi līvnā ॥4॥

भोगना मन मधे हरि रसु संतसंगति महि लीवना ॥४॥

The real enjoyment within the mind is to be absorbed in the sublime essence of the Lord, in the Society of the Saints. ||4||

ਬਿਨੁ ਤਾਗੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੂਈ ਆਨੀ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੀਵਨਾ ॥੫॥

binu tāgē binu sūī ānī manu hari bhagtī saṅgi sīvnā ॥5॥

बिनु तागे बिनु सूई आनी मनु हरि भगती संगि सीवना ॥५॥

Sew devotional worship to the Lord into the mind, without any needle or thread. ||5||

ਮਾਤਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਅਉਖੀਵਨਾ ॥੬॥

mātiā hari ras mahi rātē tisu bahuṛi na kabahū aukhīvnā ॥6॥

मातिआ हरि रस महि राते तिसु बहुड़ि न कबहू अउखीवना ॥६॥

Imbued and intoxicated with the sublime essence of the Lord, this experience will never wear off again. ||6||

ਮਿਲਿਓ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੀਵਨਾ ॥੭॥

miliō tisu sarab nidhānā prabhi kripāli jisu dīvnā ॥7॥

मिलिओ तिसु सरब निधाना प्रभि क्रिपालि जिसु दीवना ॥७॥

One is blessed with all treasures, when God, in His Mercy, gives them. ||7||

ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਚਰਣ ਸੰਤ ਧੋਇ ਪੀਵਨਾ ॥੮॥੩॥੬॥

sukhu nānak santan kī sēvā charaṇ sant dhōi pīvnā ॥8॥3॥6॥

सुखु नानक संतन की सेवा चरण संत धोइ पीवना ॥८॥३॥६॥

O Nanak, service to the Saints beings peace; I drink in the wash water of the feet of the Saints. ||8||3||6||
