ਜੀਅਰੇ ਓਲ੍‍ਾ ਨਾਮ ਕਾ ॥

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:

ਜੀਅਰੇ ਓਲ੍‍ਾ ਨਾਮ ਕਾ ॥

jīarē ōlā nām kā ॥

जीअरे ओल्‍ा नाम का ॥

Hey, soul: your only Support is the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਅਵਰੁ ਜਿ ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨੋ ਤਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਭਉ ਹੈ ਜਾਮ ਕਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

avru ji karan karāvnō tin mahi bhau hai jām kā ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

अवरु जि करन करावनो तिन महि भउ है जाम का ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Whatever else you do or make happen, the fear of death still hangs over you. ||1||Pause||

ਅਵਰ ਜਤਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

avar jatni nahī pāīai ॥

अवर जतनि नही पाईऐ ॥

He is not obtained by any other efforts.

ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧॥

vaḍai bhāgi hari dhiāīai ॥1॥

वडै भागि हरि धिआईऐ ॥१॥

By great good fortune, meditate on the Lord. ||1||

ਲਾਖ ਹਿਕਮਤੀ ਜਾਨੀਐ ॥

lākh hikmatī jānīai ॥

लाख हिकमती जानीऐ ॥

You may know hundreds of thousands of clever tricks,

ਆਗੈ ਤਿਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਮਾਨੀਐ ॥੨॥

āgai tilu nahī mānīai ॥2॥

आगै तिलु नही मानीऐ ॥२॥

But not even one will be of any use at all hereafter. ||2||

ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਨੇ ॥ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਬਾਲੂ ਨੀਰਿ ਬਹਾਵਨੇ ॥੩॥

ahmbudhi karam kamāvnē ॥ grih bālū nīri bahāvnē ॥3॥

अहंबुधि करम कमावने ॥ ग्रिह बालू नीरि बहावने ॥३॥

Good deeds done in the pride of ego are swept away, like the house of sand by water. ||3||

ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੈ ॥

prabhu kripālu kirpā karai ॥

प्रभु क्रिपालु किरपा करै ॥

When God the Merciful shows His Mercy,

ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲੈ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੪੨॥

nāmu nānak sādhū saṅgi milai ॥4॥4॥142॥

नामु नानक साधू संगि मिलै ॥४॥४॥१४२॥

Nanak receives the Naam in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||4||4||142||
