ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕਉ ਦੀਨਾ ॥

भैरउ महला ५ ॥

Bhairao, Fifth Mehl:

ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕਉ ਦੀਨਾ ॥

haumai rōgu mānukh kau dīnā ॥

हउमै रोगु मानुख कउ दीना ॥

Mankind is afflicted with the disease of egotism.

ਕਾਮ ਰੋਗਿ ਮੈਗਲੁ ਬਸਿ ਲੀਨਾ ॥

kām rōgi maiglu basi līnā ॥

काम रोगि मैगलु बसि लीना ॥

The disease of sexual desire overwhelms the elephant.

ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਰੋਗਿ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਏ ਪਤੰਗਾ ॥

drisṭi rōgi pachi muē patṅgā ॥

द्रिसटि रोगि पचि मुए पतंगा ॥

Because of the disease of vision, the moth is burnt to death.

ਨਾਦ ਰੋਗਿ ਖਪਿ ਗਏ ਕੁਰੰਗਾ ॥੧॥

nād rōgi khapi gaē kuraṅgā ॥1॥

नाद रोगि खपि गए कुरंगा ॥१॥

Because of the disease of the sound of the bell, the deer is lured to its death. ||1||

ਜੋ ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਸੋ ਰੋਗੀ ॥

jō jō dīsai sō sō rōgī ॥

जो जो दीसै सो सो रोगी ॥

Whoever I see is diseased.

ਰੋਗ ਰਹਿਤ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜੋਗੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

rōg rahit mērā satiguru jōgī ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

रोग रहित मेरा सतिगुरु जोगी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Only my True Guru, the True Yogi, is free of disease. ||1||Pause||

ਜਿਹਵਾ ਰੋਗਿ ਮੀਨੁ ਗ੍ਰਸਿਆਨੋ ॥

jihvā rōgi mīnu grasiānō ॥

जिहवा रोगि मीनु ग्रसिआनो ॥

Because of the disease of taste, the fish is caught.

ਬਾਸਨ ਰੋਗਿ ਭਵਰੁ ਬਿਨਸਾਨੋ ॥

bāsan rōgi bhavru binsānō ॥

बासन रोगि भवरु बिनसानो ॥

Because of the disease of smell, the bumble bee is destroyed.

ਹੇਤ ਰੋਗ ਕਾ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥

hēt rōg kā sagal saṃsārā ॥

हेत रोग का सगल संसारा ॥

The whole world is caught in the disease of attachment.

ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਰੋਗ ਮਹਿ ਬਧੇ ਬਿਕਾਰਾ ॥੨॥

tribidhi rōg mahi badhē bikārā ॥2॥

त्रिबिधि रोग महि बधे बिकारा ॥२॥

In the disease of the three qualities, corruption is multiplied. ||2||

ਰੋਗੇ ਮਰਤਾ ਰੋਗੇ ਜਨਮੈ ॥

rōgē martā rōgē janmai ॥

रोगे मरता रोगे जनमै ॥

In disease the mortals die, and in disease they are born.

ਰੋਗੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਭਰਮੈ ॥

rōgē phiri phiri jōnī bharmai ॥

रोगे फिरि फिरि जोनी भरमै ॥

In disease they wander in reincarnation again and again.

ਰੋਗ ਬੰਧ ਰਹਨੁ ਰਤੀ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

rōg bandh rahnu ratī na pāvai ॥

रोग बंध रहनु रती न पावै ॥

Entangled in disease, they cannot stay still, even for an instant.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਰੋਗੁ ਕਤਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੩॥

binu satigur rōgu katahi na jāvai ॥3॥

बिनु सतिगुर रोगु कतहि न जावै ॥३॥

Without the True Guru, the disease is never cured. ||3||

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਕੀਨੀ ਦਇਆ ॥

pārbrahmi jisu kīnī daiā ॥

पारब्रहमि जिसु कीनी दइआ ॥

When the Supreme Lord God grants His Mercy,

ਬਾਹ ਪਕੜਿ ਰੋਗਹੁ ਕਢਿ ਲਇਆ ॥

bāh pakṛi rōgahu kaḍhi laiā ॥

बाह पकड़ि रोगहु कढि लइआ ॥

He grabs hold of the mortal's arm, and pulls him up and out of the disease.

ਤੂਟੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

tūṭē bandhan sādhsaṅgu pāiā ॥

तूटे बंधन साधसंगु पाइआ ॥

Reaching the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the mortal's bonds are broken.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਰੋਗੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੭॥੨੦॥

kahu nānak guri rōgu miṭāiā ॥4॥7॥20॥

कहु नानक गुरि रोगु मिटाइआ ॥४॥७॥२०॥

Says Nanak, the Guru cures him of the disease. ||4||7||20||
