ਹਉਮੈ ਗਰਬੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਗਰੀਬੀ ਆਵੈ॥

ਹਉਮੈ ਗਰਬੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਗਰੀਬੀ ਆਵੈ॥

haumai garbu nivārīai gurmukhi ridai garībī āvai॥

हउमै गरबु निवारीऐ गुरमुखि रिदै गरीबी आवै॥

The earth is under our feet but under the earth is water.

ਗਿਆਨ ਮਤੀ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਭਰਮ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰ ਮਿਟਾਵੈ॥

giān matī ghaṭi chānṇā bharam agiānu andhēr miṭāvai॥

गिआन मती घटि चानणा भरम अगिआनु अंधेर मिटावै॥

Water flows downward and makes others cool and clean.

ਹੋਇ ਨਿਸਾਣਾ ਢਹਿ ਪਵੈ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਮਾਣੁ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਪਾਵੈ॥

hōi nisāṇā ḍhahi pavai dargahi māṇu nimāṇā pāvai॥

होइ निसाणा ढहि पवै दरगहि माणु निमाणा पावै॥

Mixed with various colours it assumes those colours but in itself it is colourless common to all.

ਖਸਮੈ ਸੋਈ ਭਾਂਵਦਾ ਖਸਮੈ ਦਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਾਵੈ॥

khasmai sōī bhāṃvdā khasmai dā jisu bhāṇā bhāvai॥

खसमै सोई भांवदा खसमै दा जिसु भाणा भावै॥

It becomes hot in the sun and cool in the shade, that is it acts in consonance with its companions (sun and shade).

ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨੈ ਮੰਨੀਐ ਅਪਣਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਆਪਿ ਮਨਾਵੈ॥

bhāṇā mannai mannīai apṇā bhāṇā āpi manāvai॥

भाणा मंनै मंनीऐ अपणा भाणा आपि मनावै॥

Whethger hot or cold its purpose always is other's good.

ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਪਰਾਹੁਣਾ ਦਾਵਾ ਛਡਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਾ ਦਾਵੈ॥

dunīā vichi parāhuṇā dāvā chhaḍi rahē lā dāvai॥

दुनीआ विचि पराहुणा दावा छडि रहे ला दावै॥

Though itself warm it extinguishes the fire and takes no time to get cold again.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥੧੩॥

sādhsaṅgti mili hukmi kamāvai ॥13॥

साधसंगति मिलि हुकमि कमावै ॥१३॥
