ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਸ੍ਰੋਤ ॥

केदारा महला ५ ॥

Kaydaaraa, Fifth Mehl:

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਸ੍ਰੋਤ ॥

hari kē nām binu dhrigu srōt ॥

हरि के नाम बिनु ध्रिगु स्रोत ॥

Without the Name of the Lord, one's ears are cursed.

ਜੀਵਨ ਰੂਪ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਹਿ ਤਿਹ ਕਤ ਜੀਵਨ ਹੋਤ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

jīvan rūp bisāri jīvahi tih kat jīvan hōt ॥ rahāu ॥

जीवन रूप बिसारि जीवहि तिह कत जीवन होत ॥ रहाउ ॥

Those who forget the Embodiment of Life - what is the point of their lives? ||Pause||

ਖਾਤ ਪੀਤ ਅਨੇਕ ਬਿੰਜਨ ਜੈਸੇ ਭਾਰ ਬਾਹਕ ਖੋਤ ॥

khāt pīt anēk biñjan jaisē bhār bāhak khōt ॥

खात पीत अनेक बिंजन जैसे भार बाहक खोत ॥

One who eats and drinks countless delicacies is no more than a donkey, a beast of burden.

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਮਹਾ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੈਸੇ ਬਿਰਖ ਜੰਤੀ ਜੋਤ ॥੧॥

āṭh pahar mahā sramu pāiā jaisē birakh jantī jōt ॥1॥

आठ पहर महा स्रमु पाइआ जैसे बिरख जंती जोत ॥१॥

Twenty-four hours a day, he endures terrible suffering, like the bull, chained to the oil-press. ||1||

ਤਜਿ ਗੁੋਪਾਲ ਜਿ ਆਨ ਲਾਗੇ ਸੇ ਬਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰੀ ਰੋਤ ॥

taji gōpāl ji ān lāgē sē bahu prakārī rōt ॥

तजि गुोपाल जि आन लागे से बहु प्रकारी रोत ॥

Forsaking the Life of the World, and attached to another, they weep and wail in so many ways.

ਕਰ ਜੋਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਨੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਖਉ ਕੰਠਿ ਪਰੋਤ ॥੨॥੫॥੧੩॥

kar jōri nānak dānu māgai hari rakhau kaṇṭhi parōt ॥2॥5॥13॥

कर जोरि नानक दानु मागै हरि रखउ कंठि परोत ॥२॥५॥१३॥

With his palms pressed together, Nanak begs for this gift; O Lord, please keep me strung around Your Neck. ||2||5||13||
