ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਜੀਵਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥

ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਜੀਵਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥

hari binu kiu jīvā mērī māī ॥

हरि बिनु किउ जीवा मेरी माई ॥

How can I live, O my mother?

ਜੈ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਸੁ ਜਾਚਉ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

jai jagdīs tērā jasu jāchau mai hari binu rahnu na jāī ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

जै जगदीस तेरा जसु जाचउ मै हरि बिनु रहनु न जाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hail to the Lord of the Universe. I ask to sing Your Praises; without You, O Lord, I cannot even survive. ||1||Pause||

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਪਿਆਸੀ ਕਾਮਨਿ ਦੇਖਉ ਰੈਨਿ ਸਬਾਈ ॥

hari kī piās piāsī kāmni dēkhau raini sabāī ॥

हरि की पिआस पिआसी कामनि देखउ रैनि सबाई ॥

I am thirsty, thirsty for the Lord; the soul-bride gazes upon Him all through the night.

ਸ੍ਰੀਧਰ ਨਾਥ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਲੀਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਪੀਰ ਪਰਾਈ ॥੧॥

srīdhar nāth mērā manu līnā prabhu jānai pīr parāī ॥1॥

स्रीधर नाथ मेरा मनु लीना प्रभु जानै पीर पराई ॥१॥

My mind is absorbed into the Lord, my Lord and Master. Only God knows the pain of another. ||1||

ਗਣਤ ਸਰੀਰਿ ਪੀਰ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਂਈ ॥

gaṇat sarīri pīr hai hari binu gur sabadī hari pāṃī ॥

गणत सरीरि पीर है हरि बिनु गुर सबदी हरि पांई ॥

My body suffers in pain, without the Lord; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, I find the Lord.

ਹੋਹੁ ਦਇਆਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਹਾਂ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੨॥

hōhu daiāl kripā kari hari jīu hari siu rahāṃ samāī ॥2॥

होहु दइआल क्रिपा करि हरि जीउ हरि सिउ रहां समाई ॥२॥

O Dear Lord, please be kind and compassionate to me, that I might remain merged in You, O Lord. ||2||

ਐਸੀ ਰਵਤ ਰਵਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਈ ॥

aisī ravat ravhu man mērē hari charṇī chitu lāī ॥

ऐसी रवत रवहु मन मेरे हरि चरणी चितु लाई ॥

Follow such a path, O my conscious mind, that you may remain focused on the Feet of the Lord.

ਬਿਸਮ ਭਏ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਮਨੋਹਰ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੩॥

bisam bhaē guṇ gāi manōhar nirbhau sahji samāī ॥3॥

बिसम भए गुण गाइ मनोहर निरभउ सहजि समाई ॥३॥

I am wonder-struck, singing the Glorious Praises of my Fascinating Lord; I am intuitively absorbed in the Fearless Lord. ||3||

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਧੁਨਿ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਘਟੈ ਨ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥

hirdai nāmu sadā dhuni nihchal ghaṭai na kīmti pāī ॥

हिरदै नामु सदा धुनि निहचल घटै न कीमति पाई ॥

That heart, in which the Eternal, Unchanging Naam vibrates and resounds, does not diminish, and cannot be evaluated.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਨਿਰਧਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੪॥

binu nāvai sabhu kōī nirdhanu satiguri būjh bujhāī ॥4॥

बिनु नावै सभु कोई निरधनु सतिगुरि बूझ बुझाई ॥४॥

Without the Name, everyone is poor; the True Guru has imparted this understanding. ||4||

ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਭਏ ਸੁਨਿ ਸਜਨੀ ਦੂਤ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਈ ॥

prītam prān bhaē suni sajnī dūt muē bikhu khāī ॥

प्रीतम प्रान भए सुनि सजनी दूत मुए बिखु खाई ॥

My Beloved is my breath of life - listen, O my companion. The demons have taken poison and died.

ਜਬ ਕੀ ਉਪਜੀ ਤਬ ਕੀ ਤੈਸੀ ਰੰਗੁਲ ਭਈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈ ॥੫॥

jab kī upjī tab kī taisī raṅgul bhaī mani bhāī ॥5॥

जब की उपजी तब की तैसी रंगुल भई मनि भाई ॥५॥

As love for Him welled up, so it remains. My mind is imbued with His Love. ||5||

ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਸਦਾ ਲਿਵ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਈ ॥

sahaj samādhi sadā liv hari siu jīvāṃ hari gun gāī ॥

सहज समाधि सदा लिव हरि सिउ जीवां हरि गुन गाई ॥

I am absorbed in celestial samaadhi, lovingly attached to the Lord forever. I live by singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਈ ॥੬॥

gur kai sabdi ratā bairāgī nij ghari tāṛī lāī ॥6॥

गुर कै सबदि रता बैरागी निज घरि ताड़ी लाई ॥६॥

Imbued with the Word of the Guru's Shabad, I have become detached from the world. In the profound primal trance, I dwell within the home of my own inner being. ||6||

ਸੁਧ ਰਸ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਤਤੁ ਗੁਸਾਂਈਂ ॥

sudh ras nāmu mahā rasu mīṭhā nij ghari tatu gusāṃīṃ ॥

सुध रस नामु महा रसु मीठा निज घरि ततु गुसांईं ॥

The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is sublimely sweet and supremely delicious; within the home of my own self, I understand the essence of the Lord.

ਤਹ ਹੀ ਮਨੁ ਜਹ ਹੀ ਤੈ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਐਸੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੭॥

tah hī manu jah hī tai rākhiā aisī gurmati pāī ॥7॥

तह ही मनु जह ही तै राखिआ ऐसी गुरमति पाई ॥७॥

Wherever You keep my mind, there it is. This is what the Guru has taught me. ||7||

ਸਨਕ ਸਨਾਦਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਦਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਦਿਕ ਭਗਤਿ ਰਤੇ ਬਨਿ ਆਈ ॥

sanak sanādi brahmādi indrādik bhagti ratē bani āī ॥

सनक सनादि ब्रहमादि इंद्रादिक भगति रते बनि आई ॥

Sanak and Sanandan, Brahma and Indra, were imbued with devotional worship, and came to be in harmony with Him.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਘਰੀ ਨ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡਾਈ ॥੮॥੧॥

nānak hari binu gharī na jīvāṃ hari kā nāmu vaḍāī ॥8॥1॥

नानक हरि बिनु घरी न जीवां हरि का नामु वडाई ॥८॥१॥

O Nanak, without the Lord, I cannot live, even for an instant. The Name of the Lord is glorious and great. ||8||1||
