ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥

मारू महला ४ ॥

Maaroo, Fourth Mehl:

ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥

hari agam agōcru sadā abināsī ॥

हरि अगम अगोचरु सदा अबिनासी ॥

The Lord is inaccessible and unfathomable; He is eternal and imperishable.

ਸਰਬੇ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਘਟ ਵਾਸੀ ॥

sarbē ravi rahiā ghaṭ vāsī ॥

सरबे रवि रहिआ घट वासी ॥

He dwells in the heart, and is all-pervading, permeating everywhere.

ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਸਰੇਵਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੧॥

tisu binu avru na kōī dātā hari tishi sarēvhu prāṇī hē ॥1॥

तिसु बिनु अवरु न कोई दाता हरि तिसहि सरेवहु प्राणी हे ॥१॥

There is no other Giver except Him; worship the Lord, O mortals. ||1||

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਰਾਖੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸਾਕਸਿ ਮਾਰਾ ॥

jā kau rākhai hari rākhṇahārā ॥ tā kau kōi na sāksi mārā ॥

जा कउ राखै हरि राखणहारा ॥ ता कउ कोइ न साकसि मारा ॥

No one can kill anyone who is saved by the Savior Lord.

ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਊਤਮ ਬਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੨॥

sō aisā hari sēvhu santhu jā kī ūtam bāṇī hē ॥2॥

सो ऐसा हरि सेवहु संतहु जा की ऊतम बाणी हे ॥२॥

So serve such a Lord, O Saints, whose Bani is exalted and sublime. ||2||

ਜਾ ਜਾਪੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਿਥਾਊ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

jā jāpai kichhu kithāū nāhī ॥

जा जापै किछु किथाऊ नाही ॥

When it seems that a place is empty and void,

ਤਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ਸਮਾਹੀ ॥

tā karatā bharpūri samāhī ॥

ता करता भरपूरि समाही ॥

There, the Creator Lord is permeating and pervading.

ਸੂਕੇ ਤੇ ਫੁਨਿ ਹਰਿਆ ਕੀਤੋਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਚੋਜ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੩॥

sūkē tē phuni hariā kītōnu hari dhiāvhu chōj viḍāṇī hē ॥3॥

सूके ते फुनि हरिआ कीतोनु हरि धिआवहु चोज विडाणी हे ॥३॥

He causes the dried-up branch to blossom forth in greenery again; so meditate on the Lord - wondrous are His ways! ||3||

ਜੋ ਜੀਆ ਕੀ ਵੇਦਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

jō jīā kī vēdan jāṇai ॥

जो जीआ की वेदन जाणै ॥

The One who knows the anguish of all beings

ਤਿਸੁ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੈ ॥

tisu sāhib kai hau kurbāṇai ॥

तिसु साहिब कै हउ कुरबाणै ॥

Unto that Lord and Master, I am a sacrifice.

ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਜਨ ਕਰਿ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਜੋ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੪॥

tisu āgai jan kari bēnntī jō sarab sukhā kā dāṇī hē ॥4॥

तिसु आगै जन करि बेनंती जो सरब सुखा का दाणी हे ॥४॥

Offer your prayers to the One who is the Giver of all peace and joy. ||4||

ਜੋ ਜੀਐ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

jō jīai kī sār na jāṇai ॥

जो जीऐ की सार न जाणै ॥

But one who does not know the state of the soul

ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਕਹੀਐ ਅਜਾਣੈ ॥

tisu siu kichhu na kahīai ajāṇai ॥

तिसु सिउ किछु न कहीऐ अजाणै ॥

Do not say anything to such an ignorant person.

ਮੂਰਖ ਸਿਉ ਨਹ ਲੂਝੁ ਪਰਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੫॥

mūrakh siu nah lūjhu parāṇī hari japīai padu nirbāṇī hē ॥5॥

मूरख सिउ नह लूझु पराणी हरि जपीऐ पदु निरबाणी हे ॥५॥

Do not argue with fools, O mortals. Meditate on the Lord, in the state of Nirvaanaa. ||5||

ਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਚਿੰਤ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਰਤੇ ॥

nā kari chint chintā hai kartē ॥

ना करि चिंत चिंता है करते ॥

Don't worry - let the Creator take care of it.

ਹਰਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਜੰਤਾ ਸਭਤੈ ॥

hari dēvai jali thali jantā sabhtai ॥

हरि देवै जलि थलि जंता सभतै ॥

The Lord gives to all creatures in the water and on the land.

ਅਚਿੰਤ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਪਾਥਰ ਕੀਟ ਪਖਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੬॥

achint dānu dēi prabhu mērā vichi pāthar kīṭ pakhāṇī hē ॥6॥

अचिंत दानु देइ प्रभु मेरा विचि पाथर कीट पखाणी हे ॥६॥

My God bestows His blessings without being asked, even to worms in soil and stones. ||6||

ਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਆਸ ਮੀਤ ਸੁਤ ਭਾਈ ॥

nā kari ās mīt sut bhāī ॥

ना करि आस मीत सुत भाई ॥

Do not place your hopes in friends, children and siblings.

ਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਆਸ ਕਿਸੈ ਸਾਹ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ਕੀ ਪਰਾਈ ॥

nā kari ās kisai sāh biuhār kī parāī ॥

ना करि आस किसै साह बिउहार की पराई ॥

Do not place your hopes in kings or the business of others.

ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਬੇਲੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਸਾਰੰਗਪਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੭॥

binu hari nāvai kō bēlī nāhī hari japīai sāraṅgpāṇī hē ॥7॥

बिनु हरि नावै को बेली नाही हरि जपीऐ सारंगपाणी हे ॥७॥

Without the Lord's Name, no one will be your helper; so meditate on the Lord, the Lord of the world. ||7||

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਬਨਵਾਰੀ ॥

andinu nāmu japhu banvārī ॥

अनदिनु नामु जपहु बनवारी ॥

Night and day, chant the Naam.

ਸਭ ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਪੂਰੈ ਥਾਰੀ ॥

sabh āsā mansā pūrai thārī ॥

सभ आसा मनसा पूरै थारी ॥

All your hopes and desires shall be fulfilled.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਭਵ ਖੰਡਨੁ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੮॥

jan nānak nāmu japhu bhav khaṇḍnu sukhi sahjē raiṇi vihāṇī hē ॥8॥

जन नानक नामु जपहु भव खंडनु सुखि सहजे रैणि विहाणी हे ॥८॥

O servant Nanak, chant the Naam, the Name of the Destroyer of fear, and your life-night shall pass in intuitive peace and poise. ||8||

ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

jini hari sēviā tini sukhu pāiā ॥

जिनि हरि सेविआ तिनि सुखु पाइआ ॥

Those who serve the Lord find peace.

ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥

sahjē hī hari nāmi samāiā ॥

सहजे ही हरि नामि समाइआ ॥

They are intuitively absorbed in the Lord's Name.

ਜੋ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਜਾਇ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਵੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੯॥

jō sarṇi parai tis kī pati rākhai jāi pūchhahhu vēd purāṇī hē ॥9॥

जो सरणि परै तिस की पति राखै जाइ पूछहु वेद पुराणी हे ॥९॥

The Lord preserves the honor of those who seek His Sanctuary; go and consult the Vedas and the Puraanas. ||9||

ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਲਾਗੈ ॥

jisu hari sēvā lāē sōī janu lāgai ॥

जिसु हरि सेवा लाए सोई जनु लागै ॥

That humble being is attached to the Lord's service, whom the Lord so attaches.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਰਮ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ॥

gur kai sabdi bharam bhau bhāgai ॥

गुर कै सबदि भरम भउ भागै ॥

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, doubt and fear are dispelled.

ਵਿਚੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਜਿਉ ਕਮਲੁ ਰਹੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਪਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥

vichē grih sadā rahai udāsī jiu kamlu rahai vichi pāṇī hē ॥10॥

विचे ग्रिह सदा रहै उदासी जिउ कमलु रहै विचि पाणी हे ॥१०॥

In his own home, he remains unattached, like the lotus flower in the water. ||10||

ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਸੇਵਾ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥

vichi haumai sēvā thāi na pāē ॥

विचि हउमै सेवा थाइ न पाए ॥

One who serves in egotism is not accepted or approved.

ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਏ ॥

janmi marai phiri āvai jāē ॥

जनमि मरै फिरि आवै जाए ॥

Such a person is born, only to die again, and come and go in reincarnation.

ਸੋ ਤਪੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਾਈ ਸੇਵਾ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥

sō tapu pūrā sāī sēvā jō hari mērē mani bhāṇī hē ॥11॥

सो तपु पूरा साई सेवा जो हरि मेरे मनि भाणी हे ॥११॥

Perfect is that penance and that service, which is pleasing to the Mind of my Lord. ||11||

ਹਉ ਕਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਖਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥

hau kiā guṇ tērē ākhā suāmī ॥

हउ किआ गुण तेरे आखा सुआमी ॥

What Glorious Virtues of Yours should I chant, O my Lord and Master?

ਤੂ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥

tū sarab jīā kā antrajāmī ॥

तू सरब जीआ का अंतरजामी ॥

You are the Inner-knower, the Searcher of all souls.

ਹਉ ਮਾਗਉ ਦਾਨੁ ਤੁਝੈ ਪਹਿ ਕਰਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥

hau māgau dānu tujhai pahi kartē hari andinu nāmu vakhāṇī hē ॥12॥

हउ मागउ दानु तुझै पहि करते हरि अनदिनु नामु वखाणी हे ॥१२॥

I beg for blessings from You, O Creator Lord; I repeat Your Name night and day. ||12||

ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਜੋਰੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਬੋਲਣ ਕਾ ॥

kis hī jōru ahaṅkār bōlaṇ kā ॥

किस ही जोरु अहंकार बोलण का ॥

Some speak in egotistical power.

ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਜੋਰੁ ਦੀਬਾਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ॥

kis hī jōru dībān māiā kā ॥

किस ही जोरु दीबान माइआ का ॥

Some have the power of authority and Maya.

ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਟੇਕ ਧਰ ਅਵਰ ਨ ਕਾਈ ਤੂ ਕਰਤੇ ਰਾਖੁ ਮੈ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥

mai hari binu ṭēk dhar avar na kāī tū kartē rākhu mai nimāṇī hē ॥13॥

मै हरि बिनु टेक धर अवर न काई तू करते राखु मै निमाणी हे ॥१३॥

I have no other Support at all, except the Lord. O Creator Lord, please save me, meek and dishonored. ||13||

ਨਿਮਾਣੇ ਮਾਣੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ॥

nimāṇē māṇu karahi tudhu bhāvai ॥

निमाणे माणु करहि तुधु भावै ॥

You bless the meek and dishonored with honor, as it pleases You, O Lord.

ਹੋਰ ਕੇਤੀ ਝਖਿ ਝਖਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਵੈ ॥

hōr kētī jhakhi jhakhi āvai jāvai ॥

होर केती झखि झखि आवै जावै ॥

Many others argue in conflict, coming and going in reincarnation.

ਜਿਨ ਕਾ ਪਖੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਊਪਰਿ ਗਲ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥

jin kā pakhu karahi tū suāmī tin kī ūpri gal tudhu āṇī hē ॥14॥

जिन का पखु करहि तू सुआमी तिन की ऊपरि गल तुधु आणी हे ॥१४॥

Those people, whose side You take, O Lord and Master, are elevated and successful. ||14||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥

hari hari nāmu jinī sadā dhiāiā ॥

हरि हरि नामु जिनी सदा धिआइआ ॥

Those who meditate forever on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har,

ਤਿਨੀ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

tinī gur parsādi param padu pāiā ॥

तिनी गुर परसादि परम पदु पाइआ ॥

By Guru's Grace, obtain the supreme status.

ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਪਛੋਤਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥

jini hari sēviā tini sukhu pāiā binu sēvā pachhōtāṇī hē ॥15॥

जिनि हरि सेविआ तिनि सुखु पाइआ बिनु सेवा पछोताणी हे ॥१५॥

Those who serve the Lord find peace; without serving Him, they regret and repent. ||15||

ਤੂ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਗੰਨਾਥੁ ॥

tū sabh mahi vartahi hari jagnnāthu ॥

तू सभ महि वरतहि हरि जगंनाथु ॥

You are pervading all, O Lord of the world.

ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਹਾਥੁ ॥

sō hari japai jisu gur masatki hāthu ॥

सो हरि जपै जिसु गुर मसतकि हाथु ॥

He alone meditates on the Lord, upon whose forehead the Guru places His hand.

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪੀ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦਾਸੁ ਦਸਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੨॥

hari kī sarṇi paiā hari jāpī janu nānku dāsu dasāṇī hē ॥16॥2॥

हरि की सरणि पइआ हरि जापी जनु नानकु दासु दसाणी हे ॥१६॥२॥

Entering the Sanctuary of the Lord, I meditate on the Lord; servant Nanak is the slave of His slaves. ||16||2||
