ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਜੰਮਣਾ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਚਲਣਾ॥

ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਜੰਮਣਾ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਚਲਣਾ॥

gurmukh bhai vic jammṇā bhai vic rahiṇā bhai vic chalṇā॥

गुरमुख भै विच जंमणा भै विच रहिणा भै विच चलणा॥

The gurmukhs take birth in the divine will, they remain in the divine will and move in the divine will.

ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਵਿਚ ਭਗ ਵਛਲ ਕਰ ਅਛਲ ਛਲਣਾ॥

sādh saṅgat bhai bhāi vic bhag vachhal kar achhal chhalṇā॥

साध संगत भै भाइ विच भग वछल कर अछल छलणा॥

In the discipline and love of the holy congregation they fascinate the Lord God also.

ਜਲ ਵਿਚ ਕੌਲ ਅਲਿਪ ਹੋਇ ਆਸ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਵਲੇਵੇ ਵਲਣਾ॥

jal vic kaul alip hōi ās nirās valēvē valṇā॥

जल विच कौल अलिप होइ आस निरास वलेवे वलणा॥

Being detached like lotus in the water they remain away from the cycle of hopes and disappointments.

ਅਹਿਰਣ ਘਣ ਹੀਰੇ ਜੁਗ ਗੁਰਮਤ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਅਟਲ ਨ ਟਲਣਾ॥

ahiraṇ ghaṇ hīrē jug gurmat nihchal aṭal na ṭalṇā॥

अहिरण घण हीरे जुग गुरमत निहचल अटल न टलणा॥

They remain steadfast like a diamond in between the hammer and the anvil and live their life deeply rooted in the wisdom of the Guru (gurmati).

ਪਰ ਉਪਕਾਰ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਅ ਦਯਾ ਮੋਮ ਵਾਂਗੀ ਢਲਣਾ॥

par upkār vīchār vic jīa dayā mōm vāṅgī ḍhalṇā॥

पर उपकार वीचार विच जीअ दया मोम वांगी ढलणा॥

They always imbibe altruism in their heart and in the sphere of compassion they melt like wax.

ਚਾਰ ਵਰਨ ਤੰਬੋਲ ਰਸ ਆਪ ਗਵਾਇ ਰਲਾਯਾ ਰਲਣਾ॥

chār varan tambōl ras āp gavāi ralāyā ralṇā॥

चार वरन तंबोल रस आप गवाइ रलाया रलणा॥

As four items mix up in betel and become one, likewise the gurmukhs get adjusted with every one.

ਵੱਟੀ ਤੇਲ ਦੀਵਾ ਹੋਇ ਬਲਣਾ ॥੧੭॥

vaṭṭī tēl dīvā hōi balṇā ॥17॥

वॱटी तेल दीवा होइ बलणा ॥१७॥

They, in the form of lamp becoming wick and oil, burn themselves (for lighting others).
