ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਗੁਰੁ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਮੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਬੁਝਿ ਗਈਆਸੇ ॥

guru sant janō piārā mai miliā mērī trisnā bujhi gaīāsē ॥

गुरु संत जनो पिआरा मै मिलिआ मेरी त्रिसना बुझि गईआसे ॥

O humble Saints, I have met my Beloved Guru; the fire of my desire is quenched, and my yearning is gone.

ਹਉ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਦੇਵਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੈ ਮੈ ਮੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੇ ॥

hau manu tanu dēvā satigurai mai mēlē prabh guṇtāsē ॥

हउ मनु तनु देवा सतिगुरै मै मेले प्रभ गुणतासे ॥

I dedicate my mind and body to the True Guru; I pray that may He unite me with God, the treasure of virtue.

ਧਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਡ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਮੈ ਦਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਬਾਸੇ ॥

dhanu dhannu gurū vaḍ purkhu hai mai dasē hari sābāsē ॥

धनु धंनु गुरू वड पुरखु है मै दसे हरि साबासे ॥

Blessed, blessed is the Guru, the Supreme Being, who tells me of the most blessed Lord.

ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਿਗਾਸੇ ॥੧॥

vaḍbhāgī hari pāiā jan nānak nāmi vigāsē ॥1॥

वडभागी हरि पाइआ जन नानक नामि विगासे ॥१॥

By great good fortune, servant Nanak has found the Lord; he blossoms forth in the Naam. ||1||

ਗੁਰੁ ਸਜਣੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਮੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪੰਥੁ ਦਸਾਹਾ ॥

guru sajṇu piārā mai miliā hari mārgu panthu dasāhā ॥

गुरु सजणु पिआरा मै मिलिआ हरि मारगु पंथु दसाहा ॥

I have met my Beloved Friend, the Guru, who has shown me the Path to the Lord.

ਘਰਿ ਆਵਹੁ ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ਮਿਲੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਹਾ ॥

ghari āvhu chirī vichhunniā milu sabdi gurū prabh nāhā ॥

घरि आवहु चिरी विछुंनिआ मिलु सबदि गुरू प्रभ नाहा ॥

Come home - I have been separated from You for so long! Please, let me merge with You, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, O my Lord God.

ਹਉ ਤੁਝੁ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਖਰੀ ਉਡੀਣੀਆ ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੀਨੁ ਮਰਾਹਾ ॥

hau tujhu bājhhu kharī uḍīṇīā jiu jal binu mīnu marāhā ॥

हउ तुझु बाझहु खरी उडीणीआ जिउ जल बिनु मीनु मराहा ॥

Without You, I am so sad; like a fish out of water, I shall die.

ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਹਾ ॥੨॥

vaḍbhāgī hari dhiāiā jan nānak nāmi samāhā ॥2॥

वडभागी हरि धिआइआ जन नानक नामि समाहा ॥२॥

The very fortunate ones meditate on the Lord; servant Nanak merges into the Naam. ||2||

ਮਨੁ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਚਲਿ ਚਲਿ ਭਰਮਿਆ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥

manu dah disi chali chali bharmiā manmukhu bharmi bhulāiā ॥

मनु दह दिसि चलि चलि भरमिआ मनमुखु भरमि भुलाइआ ॥

The mind runs around in the ten directions; the self-willed manmukh wanders around, deluded by doubt.

ਨਿਤ ਆਸਾ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਮਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖ ਲਗਾਇਆ ॥

nit āsā mani chitvai man trisnā bhukh lagāiā ॥

नित आसा मनि चितवै मन त्रिसना भुख लगाइआ ॥

In his mind, he continually conjures up hopes; his mind is gripped by hunger and thirst.

ਅਨਤਾ ਧਨੁ ਧਰਿ ਦਬਿਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਭਾਲਣ ਗਇਆ ॥

antā dhanu dhari dabiā phiri bikhu bhālaṇ gaiā ॥

अनता धनु धरि दबिआ फिरि बिखु भालण गइआ ॥

There is an infinite treasure buried within the mind, but still, he goes out, searching for poison.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਤੂ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਪਚਿ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਇਆ ॥੩॥

jan nānak nāmu salāhi tū binu nāvai pachi pachi muiā ॥3॥

जन नानक नामु सलाहि तू बिनु नावै पचि पचि मुइआ ॥३॥

O servant Nanak, praise the Naam, the Name of the Lord; without the Name, he rots away, and wastes away to death. ||3||

ਗੁਰੁ ਸੁੰਦਰੁ ਮੋਹਨੁ ਪਾਇ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬਾਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥

guru sundru mōhnu pāi karē hari prēm bāṇī manu māriā ॥

गुरु सुंदरु मोहनु पाइ करे हरि प्रेम बाणी मनु मारिआ ॥

Finding the beautiful and fascinating Guru, I have conquered my mind, through the Bani, the Word of my Beloved Lord.

ਮੇਰੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸੁਧਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਗਈ ਮਨ ਆਸਾ ਚਿੰਤ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ॥

mērai hirdai sudhi budhi visri gaī man āsā chint visāriā ॥

मेरै हिरदै सुधि बुधि विसरि गई मन आसा चिंत विसारिआ ॥

My heart has forgotten its common sense and wisdom; my mind has forgotten its hopes and cares.

ਮੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵੇਦਨ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੀ ਗੁਰ ਦੇਖਤ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਧਾਰਿਆ ॥

mai antri vēdan prēm kī gur dēkhat manu sādhāriā ॥

मै अंतरि वेदन प्रेम की गुर देखत मनु साधारिआ ॥

Deep within my self, I feel the pains of divine love. Beholding the Guru, my mind is comforted and consoled.

ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਇ ਮਿਲੁ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਵਾਰਿਆ ॥੪॥੧॥੫॥

vaḍbhāgī prabh āi milu janu nānku khinu khinu vāriā ॥4॥1॥5॥

वडभागी प्रभ आइ मिलु जनु नानकु खिनु खिनु वारिआ ॥४॥१॥५॥

Awaken my good destiny, O God - please, come and meet me! Each and every instant, servant Nanak is a sacrifice to You. ||4||1||5||
