ਗ੍ਰੀਖਮ ਰੁਤਿ ਅਤਿ ਗਾਖੜੀ ਜੇਠ ਅਖਾੜੈ ਘਾਮ ਜੀਉ ॥

grīkham ruti ati gākhaṛī jēṭh akhāṛai ghām jīu ॥

ग्रीखम रुति अति गाखड़ी जेठ अखाड़ै घाम जीउ ॥

In the summer season, in the months of Jayt'h and Asaarh, the heat is terrible, intense and severe.

ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬਿਛੋਹੁ ਦੁਹਾਗਣੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਨ ਕਰੀ ਰਾਮ ਜੀਉ ॥

prēm bichhōhu duhāgṇī drisṭi na karī rām jīu ॥

प्रेम बिछोहु दुहागणी द्रिसटि न करी राम जीउ ॥

The discarded bride is separated from His Love, and the Lord does not even look at her.

ਨਹ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਆਵੈ ਮਰਤ ਹਾਵੈ ਮਹਾ ਗਾਰਬਿ ਮੁਠੀਆ ॥

nah drisṭi āvai marat hāvai mahā gārbi muṭhīā ॥

नह द्रिसटि आवै मरत हावै महा गारबि मुठीआ ॥

She does not see her Lord, and she dies with an aching sigh; she is defrauded and plundered by her great pride.

ਜਲ ਬਾਝੁ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਤੜਫੜਾਵੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਰੁਠੀਆ ॥

jal bājhu machhulī taṛphaṛāvai saṅgi māiā ruṭhīā ॥

जल बाझु मछुली तड़फड़ावै संगि माइआ रुठीआ ॥

She flails around, like a fish out of water; attached to Maya, she is alienated from the Lord.

ਕਰਿ ਪਾਪ ਜੋਨੀ ਭੈ ਭੀਤ ਹੋਈ ਦੇਇ ਸਾਸਨ ਜਾਮ ਜੀਉ ॥

kari pāp jōnī bhai bhīt hōī dēi sāsan jām jīu ॥

करि पाप जोनी भै भीत होई देइ सासन जाम जीउ ॥

She sins, and so she is fearful of reincarnation; the Messenger of Death will surely punish her.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਓਟ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਾਖੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਾਮ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥

binvanti nānak ōṭ tērī rākhu pūran kām jīu ॥3॥

बिनवंति नानक ओट तेरी राखु पूरन काम जीउ ॥३॥

Prays Nanak, take me under Your sheltering support, Lord, and protect me; You are the Fulfiller of desire. ||3||
