ਫਿਰ ਪੁੱਛਣ ਸਿਧ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਮਾਤ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਆ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ॥

ਫਿਰ ਪੁੱਛਣ ਸਿਧ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਮਾਤ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਆ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ॥

phir pucchhaṇ sidh nānkā māt lōk vic kiā vartārā॥

फिर पुॱछण सिध नानका मात लोक विच किआ वरतारा॥

Siddhs again asked, (O Nanak! How are the dealings on mother earth?).

ਸਭ ਸਿਧੀਂ ਏਹ ਬੁਝਿਆ ਕਲਿ ਤਾਰਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਵਤਾਰਾ॥

sabh sidhīṃ ēh bujhiā kali tāraṇ nānak avtārā॥

सभ सिधीं एह बुझिआ कलि तारण नानक अवतारा॥

By this time all the siddhs understood that Nanak had come to earth to deliver it from the (sins of) kaliyug.

ਬਾਬੇ ਕਹਿਆ ਨਾਥ ਜੀ ਸੱਚ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਕੂੜ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ॥

bābē kahiā nāth jī sacc chandrmā kūṛ andhārā॥

बाबे कहिआ नाथ जी सॱच चंद्रमा कूड़ अंधारा॥

Baba replied, (O respected Nath, the truth is dim like the moon and the falsehood like deep darkness).

ਕੂੜ ਅਮਾਵਸ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਹਉਂ ਭਾਲਣ ਚੜਿਆ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ॥

kūṛ amāvas vartiā hauṃ bhālaṇ chaṛiā saṃsārā॥

कूड़ अमावस वरतिआ हउं भालण चड़िआ संसारा॥

The darkness of the moonless night of the falsehood has spread around and I, in order to search for the (truthful) world, have undertaken this journey.

ਪਾਪ ਗਿਰਾਸੀ ਪਿਰਥਮੀ ਧੌਲ ਖੜਾ ਧਰ ਹੇਠ ਪੁਕਾਰਾ॥

pāp girāsī pirthamī dhaul khaṛā dhar hēṭh pukārā॥

पाप गिरासी पिरथमी धौल खड़ा धर हेठ पुकारा॥

The earth is engrossed with sin and its support, the dharma in the form of ox is crying and wailing (for rescue).

ਸਿਧ ਛਪ ਬੈਠੇ ਪਰਬਤੀਂ ਕੌਣ ਜਗ ਕਉ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਾ॥

sidh chhap baiṭhē parbatīṃ kauṇ jag kau pār utārā॥

सिध छप बैठे परबतीं कौण जग कउ पार उतारा॥

In such circumstances, when siddhs, the adepts, by (becoming repudiators) have taken refuge in the mountains, how the world could get redeemed.

ਜੋਗੀ ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਹੂਣਿਆਂ ਨਿਸਦਿਨ ਅੰਗ ਲਗਾਇਨ ਛਾਰਾ॥

jōgī giān vihūṇiāṃ nisdin aṅg lagāin chhārā॥

जोगी गिआन विहूणिआं निसदिन अंग लगाइन छारा॥

Yogis also bereft of knowledge and simply applying ashes to their bodies are lying down unconcerned.

ਬਾਝ ਗੁਰੂ ਡੁੱਬਾ ਜਗ ਸਾਰਾ ॥੨੯॥

bājh gurū ḍubbā jag sārā ॥29॥

बाझ गुरू डुॱबा जग सारा ॥२९॥

Without Guru the world is getting drowned.
