ਇਕਿ ਗਾਵਤ ਰਹੇ ਮਨਿ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥

ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

गउड़ी गुआरेरी महला ३ ॥
Gauree Gwaarayree, Third Mehl:
ਇਕਿ ਗਾਵਤ ਰਹੇ ਮਨਿ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
iki gāvat rahē mani sādu na pāi ॥
इकि गावत रहे मनि सादु न पाइ ॥
Some sing on and on, but their minds do not find happiness.
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
haumai vichi gāvahi birthā jāi ॥
हउमै विचि गावहि बिरथा जाइ ॥
In egotism, they sing, but it is wasted uselessly.
ਗਾਵਣਿ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
gāvṇi gāvahi jin nām piāru ॥
गावणि गावहि जिन नाम पिआरु ॥
Those who love the Naam, sing the song.
ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
sāchī bāṇī sabad bīchāru ॥1॥
साची बाणी सबद बीचारु ॥१॥
They contemplate the True Bani of the Word, and the Shabad. ||1||
ਗਾਵਤ ਰਹੈ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
gāvat rahai jē satigur bhāvai ॥
गावत रहै जे सतिगुर भावै ॥
They sing on and on, if it pleases the True Guru.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
manu tanu rātā nāmi suhāvai ॥1॥ rahāu ॥
मनु तनु राता नामि सुहावै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Their minds and bodies are embellished and adorned, attuned to the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਇਕਿ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇਹਿ ॥
iki gāvahi iki bhagti karēhi ॥
इकि गावहि इकि भगति करेहि ॥
Some sing, and some perform devotional worship.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਸਨੇਹ ॥
nāmu na pāvahi binu asanēh ॥
नामु न पावहि बिनु असनेह ॥
Without heart-felt love, the Naam is not obtained.
ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
sachī bhagti gur sabad piāri ॥
सची भगति गुर सबद पिआरि ॥
True devotional worship consists of love for the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਅਪਨਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰ??ਖਿਆ ਸਦਾ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
apnā piru rākhiā sadā uri dhāri ॥2॥
अपना पिरु राखिआ सदा उरि धारि ॥२॥
The devotee keeps his Beloved clasped tightly to his heart. ||2||
ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਆਪੁ ਜਣਾਵਹਿ ॥
bhagti karahi mūrakh āpu jaṇāvahi ॥
भगति करहि मूरख आपु जणावहि ॥
The fools perform devotional worship by showing off;
ਨਚਿ ਨਚਿ ਟਪਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥
nachi nachi ṭaphi bahutu dukhu pāvahi ॥
नचि नचि टपहि बहुतु दुखु पावहि ॥
They dance and dance and jump all around, but they only suffer in terrible pain.
ਨਚਿਐ ਟਪਿਐ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
nachiai ṭapiai bhagti na hōi ॥
नचिऐ टपिऐ भगति न होइ ॥
By dancing and jumping, devotional worship is not performed.
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥
sabdi marai bhagti pāē janu sōi ॥3॥
सबदि मरै भगति पाए जनु सोइ ॥३॥
But one who dies in the Word of the Shabad, obtains devotional worship. ||3||
ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਸੋਇ ॥
bhagti vachhlu bhagti karāē sōi ॥
भगति वछलु भगति कराए सोइ ॥
The Lord is the Lover of His devotees; He inspires them to perform devotional worship.
ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਖੋਇ ॥
sachī bhagti vichhu āpu khōi ॥
सची भगति विचहु आपु खोइ ॥
True devotional worship consists of eliminating selfishness and conceit from within.
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
mērā prabhu sāchā sabh bidhi jāṇai ॥
मेरा प्रभु साचा सभ बिधि जाणै ॥
My True God knows all ways and means.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥੪॥੪॥੨੪॥
nānak bakhsē nāmu pachhāṇai ॥4॥4॥24॥
नानक बखसे नामु पछाणै ॥४॥४॥२४॥
O Nanak, He forgives those who recognize the Naam. ||4||4||24||
