ਏਹ ਕਿਨੇਹੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਆਪਸ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

Shalok, Second Mehl:

ਏਹ ਕਿਨੇਹੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਆਪਸ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

ēh kinēhī dāti āpas tē jō pāīai ॥

एह किनेही दाति आपस ते जो पाईऐ ॥

What sort of gift is this, which we receive only by our own asking?

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾ ਕਰਮਾਤਿ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਤੁਠੈ ਜੋ ਮਿਲੈ ॥੧॥

nānak sā karmāti sāhib tuṭhai jō milai ॥1॥

नानक सा करमाति साहिब तुठै जो मिलै ॥१॥

O Nanak, that is the most wonderful gift, which is received from the Lord, when He is totally pleased. ||1||
