ਦੇਹ ਤੇਜਨੜੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਵ ਰੰਗੀਆ ਰਾਮ ॥

ਵਡਹੰਸੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥

वडहंसु महला ४ ॥

Wadahans, Fourth Mehl:

ਦੇਹ ਤੇਜਨੜੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਵ ਰੰਗੀਆ ਰਾਮ ॥

dēh tējnaṛī hari nav raṅgīā rām ॥

देह तेजनड़ी हरि नव रंगीआ राम ॥

The body is the Lord's horse; the Lord imbues it with the fresh and new color.

ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਗੀਆ ਰਾਮ ॥

gur giānu gurū hari maṅgīā rām ॥

गुर गिआनु गुरू हरि मंगीआ राम ॥

From the Guru, I ask for the Lord's spiritual wisdom.

ਗਿਆਨ ਮੰਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਚੰਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਜਾਣੀਆ ॥

giān maṅgī hari kathā chaṅgī hari nāmu gati miti jāṇīā ॥

गिआन मंगी हरि कथा चंगी हरि नामु गति मिति जाणीआ ॥

I ask for the Lord's spiritual wisdom, and the Lord's sublime sermon; through the Name of the Lord, I have come to know His value and His state.

ਸਭੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਫਲਿਉ ਕੀਆ ਕਰਤੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਖਾਣੀਆ ॥

sabhu janmu saphliu kīā kartai hari rām nāmi vakhāṇīā ॥

सभु जनमु सफलिउ कीआ करतै हरि राम नामि वखाणीआ ॥

The Creator has made my life totally fruitful; I chant the Name of the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਮੰਗੀਆ ॥

hari rām nāmu salāhi hari prabh hari bhagti hari jan maṅgīā ॥

हरि राम नामु सलाहि हरि प्रभ हरि भगति हरि जन मंगीआ ॥

The Lord's humble servant begs for the Lord's Name, for the Lord's Praises, and for devotional worship of the Lord God.

ਜਨੁ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਚੰਗੀਆ ॥੧॥

janu kahai nānku suṇhu santhu hari bhagti gōvind chaṅgīā ॥1॥

जनु कहै नानकु सुणहु संतहु हरि भगति गोविंद चंगीआ ॥१॥

Says servant Nanak, listen, O Saints: devotional worship of the Lord, the Lord of the Universe, is sublime and good. ||1||

ਦੇਹ ਕੰਚਨ ਜੀਨੁ ਸੁਵਿਨਾ ਰਾਮ ॥

dēh kañchan jīnu suvinā rām ॥

देह कंचन जीनु सुविना राम ॥

The golden body is saddled with the saddle of gold.

ਜੜਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤੰਨਾ ਰਾਮ ॥

jaṛi hari hari nāmu ratnnā rām ॥

जड़ि हरि हरि नामु रतंना राम ॥

It is adorned with the jewel of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਜੜਿ ਨਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸੁਖ ਘਣੇ ॥

jaṛi nām ratnu gōvind pāiā hari milē hari guṇ sukh ghaṇē ॥

जड़ि नाम रतनु गोविंद पाइआ हरि मिले हरि गुण सुख घणे ॥

Adorned with the jewel of the Naam, one obtains the Lord of the Universe; he meets the Lord, sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and obtains all sorts of comforts.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗ ਹਰਿ ਬਣੇ ॥

gur sabdu pāiā hari nāmu dhiāiā vaḍbhāgī hari raṅg hari baṇē ॥

गुर सबदु पाइआ हरि नामु धिआइआ वडभागी हरि रंग हरि बणे ॥

He obtains the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and he meditates on the Name of the Lord; by great good fortune, he assumes the color of the Lord's Love.

ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਵਤਨ ਹਰਿ ਨਵ ਰੰਗੀਆ ॥

hari milē suāmī antrajāmī hari navtan hari nav raṅgīā ॥

हरि मिले सुआमी अंतरजामी हरि नवतन हरि नव रंगीआ ॥

He meets his Lord and Master, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts; His body is ever-new, and His color is ever-fresh.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੰਗੀਆ ॥੨॥

nānku vakhāṇai nāmu jāṇai hari nāmu hari prabh maṅgīā ॥2॥

नानकु वखाणै नामु जाणै हरि नामु हरि प्रभ मंगीआ ॥२॥

Nanak chants and realizes the Naam; he begs for the Name of the Lord, the Lord God. ||2||

ਕੜੀਆਲੁ ਮੁਖੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਅੰਕਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥

kaṛīālu mukhē guri aṅksu pāiā rām ॥

कड़ीआलु मुखे गुरि अंकसु पाइआ राम ॥

The Guru has placed the reins in the mouth of the body-horse.

ਮਨੁ ਮੈਗਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਸਿ ਆਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥

manu maiglu gur sabdi vasi āiā rām ॥

मनु मैगलु गुर सबदि वसि आइआ राम ॥

The mind-elephant is overpowered by the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਮਨੁ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਆਇਆ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਕੰਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥

manu vasgati āiā param padu pāiā sā dhan kanti piārī ॥

मनु वसगति आइआ परम पदु पाइआ सा धन कंति पिआरी ॥

The bride obtains the supreme status, as her mind is brought under control; she is the beloved of her Husband Lord.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਲਗਾ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਸੋਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਰੀ ॥

antri prēmu lagā hari sētī ghari sōhai hari prabh nārī ॥

अंतरि प्रेमु लगा हरि सेती घरि सोहै हरि प्रभ नारी ॥

Deep within her inner self, she is in love with her Lord; in His home, she is beautiful - she is the bride of her Lord God.

ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

hari raṅgi rātī sahjē mātī hari prabhu hari hari pāiā ॥

हरि रंगि राती सहजे माती हरि प्रभु हरि हरि पाइआ ॥

Imbued with the Lord's Love, she is intuitively absorbed in bliss; she obtains the Lord God, Har, Har.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸੁ ਕਹਤੁ ਹੈ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੩॥

nānak janu hari dāsu kahtu hai vaḍbhāgī hari hari dhiāiā ॥3॥

नानक जनु हरि दासु कहतु है वडभागी हरि हरि धिआइआ ॥३॥

Servant Nanak, the Lord's slave, says that only the very fortunate meditate on the Lord, Har, Har. ||3||

ਦੇਹ ਘੋੜੀ ਜੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥

dēh ghōṛī jī jitu hari pāiā rām ॥

देह घोड़ी जी जितु हरि पाइआ राम ॥

The body is the horse, upon which one rides to the Lord.

ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਜੀ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਗਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥

mili satigur jī maṅglu gāiā rām ॥

मिलि सतिगुर जी मंगलु गाइआ राम ॥

Meeting with the True Guru, one sings the songs of joy.

ਹਰਿ ਗਾਇ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਾ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵ ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਕੀ ॥

hari gāi maṅglu rām nāmā hari sēv sēvak sēvkī ॥

हरि गाइ मंगलु राम नामा हरि सेव सेवक सेवकी ॥

Sing the songs of joy to the Lord, serve the Name of the Lord, and become the servant of His servants.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਾਇ ਪਾਵੈ ਰੰਗ ਮਹਲੀ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣੈ ਰੰਗ ਕੀ ॥

prabh jāi pāvai raṅg mahlī hari raṅgu māṇai raṅg kī ॥

प्रभ जाइ पावै रंग महली हरि रंगु माणै रंग की ॥

You shall go and enter the Mansion of the Beloved Lord's Presence, and lovingly enjoy His Love.

ਗੁਣ ਰਾਮ ਗਾਏ ਮਨਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਮਨਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥

guṇ rām gāē mani subhāē hari gurmatī mani dhiāiā ॥

गुण राम गाए मनि सुभाए हरि गुरमती मनि धिआइआ ॥

I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, so pleasing to my mind; following the Guru's Teachings, I meditate on the Lord within my mind.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਦੇਹ ਘੋੜੀ ਚੜਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੨॥੬॥

jan nānak hari kirpā dhārī dēh ghōṛī chaṛi hari pāiā ॥4॥2॥6॥

जन नानक हरि किरपा धारी देह घोड़ी चड़ि हरि पाइआ ॥४॥२॥६॥

The Lord has showered His Mercy upon servant Nanak; mounting the body-horse, he has found the Lord. ||4||2||6||
